What's the real reason for the hold-up on Rescue 911 on DVD? There are petitions abound related to this series that support DVD releases and a return to syndication.
That aside, this show is about the obvious reenactments of uncommon bodily accidents that require surgery. Some of the victims on the show have died, which is more uncommon. This link (please remove it if it is not legal to post) takes you to an episode of R911 which documents an emergency about a man who got shocked by an old 1965-72 Black & Decker single-edge shrub/hedge trimmer. The trimmer had bad wiring and was "falling apart," says the victim's wife. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mwaps5-1KU Because of its sudden withdrawal from most syndicated outlets, people will probably only remember this series now because of its host: William Shatner. Nearly 25 years before the first episode of R911 premiered in 1989, Shatner's first big break on TV was on the NBC hit series, Star Trek, playing Capt. James Tiberius "Jim" Kirk. His other big TV hit aside from Star Trek, was T.J. Hooker, on ABC in 1982. But perhaps the most devastating episode for Mr. Shatner since the cancellation of R911 in 1996 was the mysterious August 9, 1999 drowning death of his 3rd wife of less than two years, Nerine Kidd. Death by misadventure, perhaps? ~Ben |

Do you wanna hear a shocker.
Remember in the opening sequence you see an Ambulance pull out and someone yells "Get out of the way. they're coming with the ambulance!". The patient in that Ambulance and I were pen pals for a couple of years in the late 1980s! We went our separate ways, last I heard the fellow is married and has four kids. God Bless him.

Believe it or not yes. The Incident that laid him up happened 25 years ago tomorrow (December 4). The last I heard from him was in May of 1989, I have no Idea where he is now except that he lives "Somewhere in Texas" (Carrizo Springs, about 75 miles south of San Antonio was his hometown). In 2011 I took the liberty of visiting that town (I was Amusement Park Hopping in Texas) just to see what it looked like. Had supper at a local restaurant, then hit up their local Wally's for supplies before continuing about my way.

Here is a 1989 promotional for the first official episode of R911. Prior to the official 1st season run in 1989-90, the series was tested as a pilot episode six months earlier.

It would be nice to see "Rescue 911" on DVD. I remember watching this show when I was younger- an interesting and informative show.
And William Shatner's other big series besides "T.J. Hooker", "Boston Legal" and of course- "Star Trek".

I agree it should be back with new episodes along with Unsolved Mysteries, unfortunately most Americans don't want to see that.
