I'm watching the episode "First Day Blues" on Disc 1 and when Tootie finds Willis' marijuana and thinks it's Abraham's fish food, she says "This has got to be the goofiest goldfish in New York!" Except when she says the word "goofiest", her lips seem to be moving differently. I'm assuming this was edited back when the episode originally aired and wasn't changed for the DVD. Anybody know what Tootie originally said, and when this was edited (during the original network airings, syndication, etc.)?

Haven't seen the DVD yet (I'm going in order as I bought all 4 seasons) but it sounds like it was a Looping edit. Looping meaning Kim Fields went back and recorded her voice to correct the "goofed-up" dialogue in the original footage.

About forty to forty-five seconds was trimmed from the episode "The Health Club" due to music licensing issues (in the original airing, Kimberly and Adelaide were exercising to the song "Controversy" by Prince; the scene was excised from the episode when it was released on DVD when Shout! Factory declined to pay the song's publisher [probably Prince himself], although a still of Kimberly and Adelaide remained in the closing credits).

I can only imagine that a Prince song would be costly. I'm not too disappointed about this edit because the scene wasn't very important.

Prince is a self-absorbed bastard. Remember, too, that he has also said no to having his music on YouTube.

Thank you for commenting on my comment, guys...it means a lot to me!
And while I'm on the subject, "The Health Club" was not the first time one of Prince Rogers Nelson's songs was excised from DVD release due to licensing issues...in the original NBC broadcast of season two's "The Rivals," Arnold, Willis, and Lurlene were dancing to "I Wanna Be Your Lover." When "Strokes's" second season was released by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment in 2006 (reissued by Mill Creek Entertainment in 2014), the scene remained intact, but "I Wanna Be Your Lover" was replaced with a generic instrumental. A few months later, the same scene with Arnold, Willis, and Lurlene dancing appeared as a flashback in the episode "Valentine's Day Retrospective," and once again, "I Wanna Be Your Lover" was replaced--by the same instrumental! |

I'm not sure if the Prince song was cut from the encore black airings. Anyone know?

She said "goofiest" on Encore too. But yeah, her lips weren't in sync with what she said.
