My 80s Sitcom Idea

There was another thread about this, and I thought it was really cool. I know that currently, the producers of "That 70's Show" are creating their own 80s show, but it's early 1980s adn I have an idea for a mid-to-late 80s sitcom.

Let me start with this bit of information. This is slightly (mostly) based on the life of my older sister. Little did I know when I was younger, but my family was quite disfunctional. My mother had my sister with one man, and then married his cousin and had me. This makes my older half-sister my third cousin! Anyways, during a six month period in my sisters life, she decided that my parents wouldn't give her what she wanted (and they wouldn't, she was bratty and rude and always getting into trouble), so she went to live with her father. Well, that didn't last long and she returned (well it lasted six months).

Anyways, my sisters disfunctional behaviors have continued into today, and I won't get into that, but let me say that I have not seen my sister in a several months, and in the past few years have only seen her a few times, and she lives in the same small city as I do (and it's not that I don't want to see her, either).

Anyways, this is a sitcom based on a family similar to my family (though, for dramatic reasons, some characters will be changed, and for comedic reasons some will be changed too :-)), but focuses around the tribulations of my sister, who had to grow up with a little brother that was very attached to her (that would be me, I just never wanted her to leave, especially after she had been gone for six months). So here goes the idea for the sitcom (dramedy, really, almost).

Again, let me stress this, several of the characters have been changed, and this is not necessarilly the life that my sister lives. (Because some of the characters come off as being bad people, and they aren't really, and the last thing I want to do is give my family a bad image :-))

Premise: This is the story of a girl who grew up in the mid-to-late 80s (mid-1988 is the year this is set in) and was born in 1978. Well, the main character (who we shall call Loni) is far from a perfect little girl. After moving back to where she was born, and being closer with her biological father and his family, she decides that it's time for her to take her own life in her own hands and do what she wants to do.

Main Character Background: My sister was born here in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and then she moved to California, as her step-father (my father) was a Marine and he moved around a lot. After a year or so in California, they moved to North Carolina, where she spent much of her younger life. In 1987, though, my family moved back to Michigan and lived with my grandmother (me, my mom, my dad, my older sister (8 years older), and my younger (1 year younger) sister moved in). Well, my sister got in to trouble a lot, and not only that, but she now lived near her biological father (my second cousin, incidentilly), and she visited him sometimes. She also lived closer to her biological grandmother and grandfather (that would be my great aunt and uncle), and she was visiting them from time to time. Well, ya heard the rest up above.

Other Characters: There would, of course, have to be the grandmother with whom they live. She is a widow, and has six kids, three of whom lived in close proximinity (within 30 minutes), and one child who had moved back into her home (a home they had lived in for over 20 years). She is a very authoratative woman, who takes charge of the family and is the mold that holds everything together. We shall call her Jillian.

Then, of course, there are the parents. The mother is a short woman who greatly cares for her husband. She, however, does get very confused and frustrated with her younger daughter. She tries to keep her daughter in line, while also allowed her daughter to see her biological father. We shall call her Linda. Then there is the step-father. He is a bit more authoratitve, and tries to be a little more active with straightening up the young woman, but never does it in a way that is MEAN.

Then, of course, there is the biological father and his family. The biological father is a very heavy drinker, though, during her visits, he never lets his daughter see this. He is a cheater and a womanizer, and is known to get violent. We shall call him Dan. Then there is the step-mother. The step-mother is a very secluded woman, who allows her husband, and father of her young child (a baby), do whatever he wants. We shall call her Cheryl.

Then, of course, there are the younger siblings. As this involves the whole family, part of the plot will revolve around how the boy feels left out. The older one is a boy, and is one year the senior of his younger sister, though his older sister is eight years his elder. Anyways, the young boy is very attached to his older sister (I have a funny story about how attached I really was, but it's sort of embarrasing LOL Mostly embarrassing for her, though), while the older sister is, as I have mentioned, more independant. The younger sister is still fairly young (a baby of less than a year), and well, the younger boy didn't really like the attention that his sister got, and well..
