Jimmy Kimmel Explains His Hatred for Jay Leno
11/17/2012 by Jordan Zakarin In the late night wars, there is Jay Leno on one side, and everybody else on the other. Leno has twice been named the host of the "Tonight Show": in 1992, when he won the job over Johnny Carson's heir apparent, David Letterman; and in 2010, when he negotiated to get the show back after briefly handing it off to Conan O'Brien. Neither late night host has many good things to say about him -- Letterman as made a two-decade sport out of ripping Leno -- but perhaps no one is as openly hostile to him as ABC's Jimmy Kimmel. In a new interview with Larry King, Kimmel details the origins of that animus. "For me, it started with Letterman, and it started with a guy, at least from my standpoint, became famous on the Letterman Show," he said. "I always felt weird about how Jay got that 11:30 spot. Of course, that was NBC's decision, but the whole thing seemed pre-meditated to me." It should come as no surprise that Kimmel resented Leno for that situation; Letterman was his childhood hero. Back in August, Kimmel openly said of Leno "F--- him!" to an audience in New York, and in 2010, donned a prosthetic chin and makeup to impersonate -- in a less than kind manner -- the "Tonight Show" host. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/liv...-hatred-391704 |

Jimmy Kimmel Slams Jay Leno: "Can’t Stay On TV Forever"
by DOMINIC PATTEN Wednesday December 19, 2012 Jimmy Kimmel today said Jay Leno reminds him of Jason from the Friday the 13th horror movies. “Just when you think he’s dead, he comes back,” said the ABC late night host Wednesday on a conference call about his show’s move to 11:35 PM next year. Kimmel was addressing rumors that Jimmy Fallon could replace "The Tonight Show" host in the next few years. “The fact is that NBC is going to make a decision someday. As much as he would like it, Jay Leno can’t stay on television forever and Jimmy Fallon is the heir apparent,” Kimmel said of his soon-to-be direct rival come January 8, 2013. While Kimmel admitted that he didn’t like what he perceived as Leno scheming against his hero David Letterman over who would take over "The Tonight Show" from Johnny Carson back in 1992 in the end “Jay’s just another guy doing a TV show.” Kimmel also said that "The Tonight Show’s" move to a minute earlier at 11:34 PM doesn’t worry him much either. “It tells me that they are a bit concerned,” said Kimmel on a conference call Wednesday. “I’ll be curious to see how long that goes on. That’s a trick designed to bring up their ratings in the first month,” he added. “What really matters is how you do in May and that’s when we’ll know where we stand.” Kimmel said today that not a lot will change on his show when it moves to 11:35 PM. “It will pretty much be the same show we’ve always been doing,” he said. “There’s this idea that you need to broaden the show or make it more wholesome, and I think that is outdated,” he added. “The jokes will remain exactly the same,” he said. “We’re moving 25 minutes earlier. From a Standards and Practices standpoint it’s not a huge difference.” http://www.deadline.com/2012/12/jimm...-tonight-show/ |

Jimmy Kimmel Slams Jay Leno: "He Totally Sold Out"
Jan 4, 2013 by Liz Raftery Despite the fact that he'll be going head-to-head against David Letterman when his late-night talk show moves from midnight to 11:35 p.m. next week, Jimmy Kimmel has nothing but good things to say about his new rival. But Jay Leno, on the other hand? Not so much. "As a comedian, you can't not have disdain for what he's done: He totally sold out," Kimmel told Rolling Stone, as reported by the New York Daily News. "He was a master chef who opened a Burger King." As for Letterman, who recently dissed Leno again, Kimmel says of his idol: "If I beat David Letterman in the ratings, does that mean I'm better than Letterman? No f---ing way." Kimmel adds that he and fellow late-night host Jimmy Fallon are ready to eventually fill the Leno-Letterman rivalry void after the two retire. "People are going to compare me and Fallon for years to come," Kimmel says. "We're being positioned as the Leno and Letterman of the next round. I like it because he's a very worthy competitor." http://www.tvguide.com/News/Jimmy-Ki...t-1058482.aspx |

Why so much vitriol? It seems the late night hosts are always feuding about something or the other?

Jay, Letterman, Kimmel. They all suck. Late night tv hasn't been the same since Carson retired.

Kimmel won't be laughing when he gets crushed by Leno. He'll do a lot worse than Nightline, stupid move on ABC's part.

It's actually a very common belief among comedians and comedy fans (myself included) that Leno was once a killer standup, but has become milquetoast-at-best in the past few decades.
