Just saw this article today and remembered it from Unsolved Mysteries. The soilder was on top of a tank with two buddies talking when this kid walked by and he gave him some candy, food and an American Flag. One of the soilders grandaughter saw Unsolved Mysteries and remembered her father talking about this story. Unfortunately the man passed away in 1986, but he got to meet his whole family.

That is so great for him to get this chance before he himself dies. I'm happy for him to come this far and finally find answers. I also found this episode on the video site, never knew it was there.

I'm so happy that he found the family. I watched this segment not too long ago, I always hoped that a family member would recognize the person and come forward.

I wonder with stories like this if they find the actual soldier they are seeking. I'm sure that this sort of scene played out countless times during the liberation of the concentration camps. I guess it doesn't really matter if the right kid finds the right soldier. Both went through the experience, just maybe not with each other.

When I was in Afghanistan last year we did some civil liaison work and had a couple of shuras with local government officials and women from the district we were in. Of course they brought their young children with them. This one little six year-old boy would always seek me out. He'd sit on my lap, wear my patrol cap or play with my helmet if we were inside, just kind of hang out with me through the meetings. He'd scribble in my notebook and talk to me, regardless of the fact that I don't speak Pashto and he didn't speak English. I probably opened a million cans of Mountain Dew for him (I'm sure his mother loved that) and if there was food served, he would always run to get us naan to share. I'll never forget him; he was the bright spot in a lot of crappy days for sure.

The war and the circumstances are much different than WWII, but I know a lot of us had experiences like that, and I reckon it wouldn't matter to a lot of us if we didn't meet the exact person. It wouldn't matter to me.

I'm so glad a reunion was able to happen, especially after so many years have passed. As truly terrible as war is, it can bring so many together if individuals choose to reach out to one another.

1990, I have no doubt a soldier's family was reunited with Stephan Ross, I was just musing about these stories and if the right kid finds the right soldier. It takes nothing away from the experience, it was more just a musing.

I hope that the details were precise enough that the correct family was found because it is entirely possible that Necco is correct. But it is still a good, soul-stirring experience for both parties in either case.

I am so glad Stephan Ross has been able to meet the family.

Maybe Ross had a great memory and when he saw pictures of the soldier, was able to confirm that it was him.
