Although "The Carol Burnett Show" is not a sitcom, I figured this would still be a fairly appropriate place to address some of the confusion surrounding the new "Carol's Favorites" releases in stores.
First off, Time Life, who is producing ALL of the DVDs I'm about to mention, has released a $200 "Ultimate Collection" set, which includes 50 episodes on 22 DVDs and is available ONLY through the Time Life website. A break down of the discs can be found on the Time Life website, or on the "TVShowsonDVD" website- http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Car...llection/17308 (you will need to refer to one of these lists when trying to fully understand the rest of the "exclusive" discs I mention). In addition to this "Ultimate Collection" mega box, there is also a 6 DVD set called "Carol's Favorites", and there is also a 2 disc "The Best 10 Episodes" set, and a single disc release also called "Carol's Favorites" (the six disc release has orange background, the 2 disc a blue background, and single disc pink background). All of THESE sets include at least one disc in common, so if you are a true fan, you will only need to get the 6 disc set to own all of the episodes available on these three releases. Now here's where things get more confusing: the retail chain COSTCO is offering a "Limited Edition" version of the 6 disc set, which includes a "7th Bonus Disc". The contents of the bonus disc is simply the same contents of the 7th disc from the aforementioned "Ultimate Collection" release. On top of this "exclusive", WAL-MART is also offering their own single disc "exclusive" release, which is actually the contents of the 8th disc from the "Ultimate Collection". And, lastly (at least as I've found so far), the restaurant chain CRACKER BARREL (which includes a general store-like gift shop in every store) is releasing yet another "exclusive" disc with--you guessed it--the contents of the 9th disc from the "Ultimate Collection". So, for those of us not able to afford the mega set but still wanting to get the most bang for our buck, we can feasibly get the first 9 discs of the larger set--which totals 24 episodes (nearly half of the episodes from the $200 set!)--for less than $70, and without having to buy any "duplicate" discs! The only downside is you have to go to three separate retail stores to get them all... This was a rather ODD and very confusing marketing ploy, but hopefully this breakdown will help a casual fan find their way to the most possible episodes for a much lesser cost.
