Default Petticoat Junction: Return to Hooterville DVD

Pavan mentioned it on today's blog. At least another DVD is in the works, wonder what it is. If it is a compilation of episodes I hope they are from season 3 onward.

MPI released My Favorite Martian - Season 3 on DVD a few weeks ago, but the set came with an insert that provided a bit of news... and we honestly don't have a whole lot of details about two of the releases mentioned on it. First, it showed packaging for the made for TV movie Return of the Beverly Hillbillies. This was recently made available as a MOD offering on amazon.com, but this MPI offering, whenever it appears, could be more interesting. The problem is, we really have no clue about any details regarding this. We have even fewer details about the packaging shown for Petticoat Junction: Return to Hooterville. Honestly, we're not sure what it is (Is it a retrospective? A collection of episodes?), but it has a banner on it that says "50th Anniversary Collection" which leads us to believe that it may just be a collection of episodes, perhaps similar to the set they released a few years ago. You can see the entire insert (the remaining releases are things that have been out for a while) below.

I would find it hard to think that MPI got a license from CBS to handle any episodes beyond the ones already outright owned by the Henning estate. Not saying it isn't possible. I already have the Ultimate Collection by MPI and seasons 1 and 2 from CBS. Anything new sure would be welcome indeed.

Bear in mind they did use a S3 pic on the cover with Linda, Lori and Gunilla. Hopefully that means we'll be getting SOME color episodes.

Buy.com has a little bit more info on it. It shows a release date for 3/12/13 and an MSRP of $14.98. With that little price tag I bet it is just a single disc set. http://www.buy.com/prod/petticoat-ju...245238648.html

Didn't MPI acquire Family Affair from Paramount/CBS? And how about Here's Lucy? Anyway, if CBS has no intention of continuing season sets of The Beverly Hillbillies and Petticoat Junction, I wish they'd license them to MPI, for further releases.

Who knows what to expect now that The Lucy Show and Here's Lucy are completed!

Update and cover art, still not much info

Two days ago saw MPI Home Video's release of Here's Lucy - Season 6 on DVD, the final season of that show. One of our longtime readers, "Brandon," got his copy yesterday and sent us a scan of the marketing insert found inside the package. Below is a part of that scan (thanks!) showing that MPI is working on an upcoming release of Petticoat Junction - Return to Hooterville: 50th Anniversary Collection. We checked with the studio, and today MPI replied with the info that this is in production for a 2013 wide release, and told us the following about the item:
  • Petticoat Junction 50th Anniversary Tribute is a collection that includes never-before-seen and behind-the-scenes material from the archive of series creator Paul Henning, in additional to vintage promotional TV appearances by stars Bea Benaderet and Linda Kaye Henning, cast commercials and "The History of Hooterville" documentary containing interviews with original series actors and production personnel. Also Bea Benaderet on Lucille Ball's radio show "Let's Talk To Lucy."
From that description, we're not entirely sure if this will include actual episodes or not, but it sounds like we'll at the very least see selected scenes from episodes, as we explore the history of this legendary show. Finalized info, including pricing and a specific street date, are still to be decided upon. Stay tuned and we'll provide that to you as soon as we can!

Even though this isn't season 3, it looks like something special for PH fans. I look forward to vintage interviews and appearances of Bea Benaderet.

Yesterday, I was watching MPI's Petticoat Junction Ultimate Collection.
Among the extras is "The History of Hooterville" Documentary, Bea Benaderet, appearing on The Art Linkletter Show and cast commercials from seasons 1 & 2.

I'm now wondering if the new dvd set coming in March, is going to have this same material, particuarly, the same "History of Hooterville"!

I sure hope this includes material not previously released, from Paul Henning's estate. Atlease we know the "Let's Talk to Lucy" Radio Program with Bea, is new.

Another update!

The interviews and behind the scenes stuff is nice and all, but I want more episodes! I'll probbably end up getting it any way though.

  • Lots of Curves, You Bet - Betty Jo, Bobbie Jo & Billie Jo Are Back! When the classic comedy PETTICOAT JUNCTION premiered on CBS-TV in 1963 - on the heels of its sister series The Beverly Hillbillies - it became an immediate hit, ranking #4 for the season. The show ran for over 200 episodes through 1970, and has continued to be seen in reruns.

PETTICOAT JUNCTION - RETURN TO HOOTERVILLE is a 50th Anniversary Tribute to one of the most beloved sitcoms of the sixties featuring cast interviews, behind-the-scenes materials, promotional appearances and other rare footage. So, forget about your cares and come ride the little train called the Cannonball back to a simpler time for a visit with Uncle Joe, Kate and the Bradley sisters at the Shady Rest Hotel in Hooterville!
Just before Christmas we reported that MPI Home Video is preparing a DVD release of Petticoat Junction - Return to Hooterville: 50th Anniversary Collection. Now the studio has formally set a street date of March 12th for this title, and a $14.98 SRP. It includes never-before-seen special features, including a full-length documentary on the history of the show, "and much more"! Here's a finalized high-res look at the front cover art to the box:

I wonder if Petticoat Junction: Return to Hooterville and The Return of The Beverly Hillbillies, will be in stores, or just on Amazon.

I sure hope this includes material not previously released, from Paul Henning's estate. Atlease we know the "Let's Talk to Lucy" Radio Program with Bea, is new.

I spent the afternoon watching the newly released "50th Return To Hooterville" DVD....running a full 3 hours and 10 minutes, I say just BUY, BUY, BUY! There is some re-released material as the poster mentioned above like Bea on Art Linkletter, cast commercials, The Christmas Episode (does contain original commercials and bumbers) and "The History Of Hooterville", though it seems longer running a full 45 minutes, so I would have to compare it to the previously released version.

NOW THE GOOD STUFF.....Thank the heavens above that the Paul Henning Estate kept everything and that Linda has preserved it, So most of the material does feature Linda (still so beautiful for a woman nearing 70!)

Newly Amazing Highlights Include......Mike Minor Interview, Extra interviews with Lori Saunders, sadly since in the last view years we have lost many of the stars but they are still represented from interviews from just a few years back like Sam Cady & Charles Lane. Added is Pristine Raw footage of all Cannonball footage (I learned The Cannonball was painted over and used in the western "The Wild Wild West) full color miniture Cannonball footage never used in the series, complete unedited opening and closing water tower footage, Odd 60's TV appearances featuring Linda & Mike, Linda on a "Dating Game" type Show, and yes a full 15 minute Benji documentary produced in the mid 70's. Plus about 6 other very rare oddities!

The DVD leaves you with the same warm and fuzzy feeling wanting to go back in time just to spend one night at the Shady Rest as many loving and sincere stories are told and shown.

Basically I believe they have literally found every piece of footage left and finally released it, but even with the repeat footage for the under $15 amazon price, if you are a fan of the series and the lovely "Hooterville Honey's", THIS IS A MUST BUY! Triple AAA+++

I got the Dvd and watched it! I enjoyed it alot. One other thing on it that wasn't mentioned above is a radio interview with Bea, on Lucille Ball's old radio program, "Let's Talk To Lucy." That was really interesting, considering that Lucy and Bea were good friends.
