Default Mrs. G in Season 7

I don't think anything about this has been posted yet. I did a search, but couldn't find anything on it.

Why was Mrs. G absent for so much of the seventh season? I was looking through the episode guide for some names of episodes I got on Fandemonium, and realized that she missed several episodes toward the end of the season. Was this her decision, or NBC's? I just wonder if they were trying the show out without her to see if it would float. OR, was she in negotiations with her contract? OR, was it like she said, that she had run out of things to do with the girls, and she felt that her time had come to leave?

Any thoughts??

Okay, here are my thoughts, as much as i love Char, I think mostly it was because she wanted out....like she said, the girls were growing up and "Mrs. Garrett" was being pushed out of their lives...........I mean, the girls were growing up and EVERYONE knows, (at least it seems like everyone but the writers knew this, no offense to the writers) that even when you're older you still need a "Mrs. Garrett." I think it was kinda pointless for them to write in less and less parts for Mrs. Garrett...and then.....no offense to Leachman fans because she was very skilled at this character, but THEN they HAD to bring in Beverly ANN!!!!I mean, I think that was probably THE WORST fol character, because she had HUGE shoes to fill and she didn't even try, I mean the girls still had stuff they needing help with, but Beverly Ann was always off somewhere doing who knows what, probably trying to figure out why you put peanut butter and Jelly together on a sandwhich!

ok..I'm calmer now......I HATE IT that Char left....as everyone can most likely tell, and I think that they should've gotten different writers instead of a sister for the show, they should have gotten writers that would Actually have made the focus around Mrs. Garrett again, the whole show started focused around Mrs. G!!!If it woulda stayed that way, they wouldn't have had a reunion because they'd still be airing...IMO!

If you put 2 and 2 together you get 4.. and my 2 and 2 is that the movie that charlotte appeared in in 1985 (The Worst Witch) was released in either 1985 or 1986... i believe she was gone becasue she was doing te movie The Worst Witch... I am not POSITIVE.. but that's what i alwasy thought.. plus, i'm surprised you didn't mention her leave of absense in season 6... i think that was becuase of some family things she had to take care off.. i don't remember, but i know there was a specific reason...

But i also think that she took the role in the movie so that she could try to broaden her "acting" experience... but if i were charlotte rae i woudl have left after season 6 before the stupid "over our heads" shop came into play... i mean.. i would get SOOO sick of having to act sweet and innocent and norotic mrs. garrett all the time... i would have jumped the band wagon prolly in season 5 (before season 6) it was just... i dunno.. but i woulda been gone WAY before charlotte finally spoke up...

And not to be mean to charlotte (becuase i love her and mrs. garrett to pieces) don't you think she was maybe getting a little jelous that the other girls were getting the attention in a show where she was supposed to be the star? i mean.. hell i would! The show was brought up to her, she helped create the show's characters (especially mindy's character natalie!!) and she went to them with idea's and helped teh 4 girls learn to act better... (at least that's what i always thought) so maybe she got jelous and THAT's why she REALLY left the show... nobody really knows.. but i'll shut up now...

Toodles!

Ok, I may be hallucinating here so don't take my word for it, but I think I remember reading this somewhere...

Charlotte was offered another job, it might have been a movie or something, and instead of totally leaving that show for the season she kinda left the door open in case it didn't work out. Charlotte said herselves the girls were moving on and there wasn't more Mrs. G could do to help them. She had taught them pretty much all they knew...
I don't recall the project Charlotte went to work on, but it became definite in season8 and that is why Mrs. G said good bye. I think it was cool that Charlotte came back to give Mrs. G a deserving good bye...I wish I had that ep on tape---it's so sad to just think about her leaving
Anyway, I agree that there is no one who they could have brought in to fill Mrs. G's shoes. The thing I don't get though is that why did the girls have to have a 'keeper.' They were adults by then, with the exception of Tootie perhaps, and could take care of themselves. I never understood why Mrs. G didn't allow the girls to stay at the house by themselves or whatever...
I guess the writers just needed another character or something to balance it all out, but the girls were woman by then and fully capable of giving each other advice...
Cloris was good as Bev, and Bev had her moments, but she was no Mrs. G, that's for sure!

Ha ha ha well said! BEVERLY ANN had no influence or interest on the girls whatsoever (too busy looking for peanut butter hee hee!).
On the other hand, we all need a MRS G in our lives (no matter the age) and i always felt that the girls still needed her: TOOTIE was 18, NAT 19, JO & BLAIR 22 which makes them young adults, and in my opinion they could have used more guidance. Also, they loved her and TOOTIE even said on one episode, that she she could see them all still living under the same roof as MRS G with her children and grandchildren ha ha lol!

Where are all these young women's mothers and fathers to provide guidance?
