Default Season 7 - Transfer Glitch or defective DVD?

Hello all,

Just a quick question... on episode 16, "Sex, Lies and Bad Hair Days" from the 3rd DVD, at around the 1:50 mark, B.J. asks the girls something like this "Do you think I got this hair do because I was depressed?" and the girls respond "Aw no" and at this point it seems as if the visual & audio are out of sync. It then syncs up 10 seconds later. I don't think this is a defect with the disc but with the transfer itself, but I want to be sure. Could those of you who have this season check this out to see if there's the same glitch? If it is my DVD, then I want to take steps to exchange it so I'm not stuck with a defect, but I truly think it's the transfer itself. What say any of you?

Thanks in advance...

Ed

Not sure of what the other glitches you speak of are about, but this one was very noticeable. I'm not upset as I am relieved that it's not due to a defect on my DVD. Now I don't have to worry about exchanging another set for the one I currently have.

I guess Shout has to take what they can in order to produce these DVD sets. I've always wondered how Shout was able to do so when SONY, who had planned to do full season sets of the show back in 2004, passed on it due to how much money it'd take for them to clear the music rights. And yet a small company like Shout continually makes passed over TV shows available for release. How are they able to do so when they're such a small company and less likely to afford it when bigger companies can't?

Methinks they settle for what they can get (non-remastered transfers), albeit at a cheaper price as to guarantee that Shout itself won't go bankrupt, and figure that fans will want what Shout can afford to offer as opposed to having nothing at all. It's why I think we stopped seeing "extras" for this show in the later seasons simply because that drives up the cost. It's also why I think we stopped getting inserts with commentary and episode listings. It's all about defraying the cost. It's important in this economy as well as for a show that many publicly won't know is available, at least for the later seasons, since many of the stores aren't stocking them. The last 3 or 4 seasons I've had to order online simply because the stores don't stock them. Shout loses out on a number of potential buyers right there since only die hards are going to go through the trouble of looking for the later seasons. If they were visibly seen in a store, even the casual fan would be more likely to buy it on impulse.

I'm sure ideally they would've preferred to have better transfers for the last season but even when it was doubtful as to whether we'd get season 6 or 7, many fans on this board were stating that they were planning on passing on them since they were with the re-casts. I'm sure Shout was realistic about what to expect sales-wise with seasons 6 & 7 and anticipated even more of a sales drop. They probably thought it best to do with what they can or not put it out at all.

So while I'm disappointed with a glitch here and there, it's more than livable with me. The alternative is settling for my VHS copies (edited syndicated versions of which I've happily discarded) and missing out on the other episodes that I didn't have.

Fans of this show are damned lucky...

Anyhoo, thank you zypherix for confirming for me that the glitch is on all sets. You've put my mind at ease.

Happy watching!

Ed

S2E14 "Second Time Around" has some color flaws, the picture is too red.
The glitch in S7E09 is listed on the DVD review on the website, the picture quality drops severly at 15:15 (same color flaw as S2E14 but worse picture quality)

Funny how I didn't notice them as much... must be because I'm still watching these on a non-High Def TV or something... either way, it's still livable for me... right now I'm on the last 2 part ep of the series and I don't there'll be any more reports of glitches. Thanks again for checking the glitch on DVD 3... you're awesome for having done so...
