Usually two characters sharing the same room get into an argument, so they divide the room in half by stretching masking tape across the floor and pick sides.

How many sitcoms can you think of that used this gimmick ploy?

Not sure, but I seem to recall the skipper and Gilligan doing this, too.

I don't think masking tape was put down but D.J. and Stephanie from Full House in the pilot and then episode "Divorce Court".

Yes, Gilligan and the Skipper divided up the hut with a white line in one ep. This scenario was funny in that the Skipper got the half with the door in it, so Gilligan had to climb in and out the window.

It was in the "Ralph vs. Postie" episode during the show's sixth season. One of the two mentioned a lava lamp, which was an error: the lava lamp was invented

Wayne did this on The Wonder Years, calling it "traffic control" when he and Kevin were fighting over who would have to move to Karen's room. Of course, the situation favored Wayne; no matter where Kevin walked, Wayne hit him for some lame penalty!

By that season they had long ago stopped being sticklers to keeping the show not set in the 70's.

Full House for sure. I think it was Michelle and Stephanie, but it may have been DJ and Stephanie. I'm not 100% sure.
