Default Complete list of season 8/9 DVD edits

This is a list of all the edits found on the Roseanne region 1 season 8 and 9 DVDs, to help people look for edits when they are re-released. I know there have been lists before but not sure if there was ever a complete one compiled. But here is one (I hope) anyway:

S08E01 - Shower the People You Love with Stuff:
The end tag in black & white with Lecy and Sarah spoofing the Patty Duke intro is removed.

S08E02 - Let Them Eat Junk:
The Looney Tunes theme playing on the tv towards the end is replaced with generic sound effects.

S08E05 - Halloween - the Final Chapter:
The music is replaced when Roseanne talks to Jerry Garcia and during the following dance scene.

S08E10 - Direct to Video:
The "Facts of Life" theme song is replaced when it plays early in the episode, while Dan comments "it was the Friends of the 70s".

S08E11 - December Bride:
The Milton Berle cameo and a scene where Roseanne is singing christmas songs with a pianist are removed. (The pianist appearance is edited out of syndication as well)

S08E16 - Construction Junction:
The end tag with Tiny Tim teaching David to play the ukulele is removed.

S08E17 - We're Going to Disney World:
"When You Wish Upon a Star" sung by David is muted out.

S08E18 - Disney World War II:
"When You Wish Upon a Star" is replaced by generic music on three occasions: It's sung by the cast when they leave the hotel, played when they enter the park and played when Dan runs out of the park.

S08E24 - Heart & Soul
The music during Darlene and David's first dance is replaced.

S09E01 - Call Waiting
The "I Dream of Jeannie" theme song heard on tv is replaced.

S09E03 - What a Day for a Daydream
"Super freak" is replaced by disco music when Roseanne and Jackie are at the photo shoot.

S09E05 - Someday My Prince Will Come
The end tag in black and white where Bev sings at a nightclub is removed.

S09E07 - Satan, Darling
A few lines of the "That Girl" theme played when Roseanne is offered to drink from the cauldron is overdubbed.

S09E09 - Roseambo
The rap music when Roseanne dress up as Rambo is replaced.

S09E12 - Home for the Holidays
"Walking in a winter wonderland" is replaced with an instrumental "Silent night" towards the end of the episode.

S09E14 - Hit the Road, Jack
The few lines of "Breaking up is hard to do" heard on the radio as well as instrumental when Dan leaves are both replaced. The end tag with the hermit crab video is removed.

S09E19 - The Miracle
The song towards the end is replaced.

Wonder why the DVD releases was so screwed up for this show. I remember hearing stories about season 1 being edited also

Season 1 is a mess of its own, here is the comparison list:
R1/R2 (Anchor Bay; US, UK) - Syndicated prints of all episodes
R2 (Universum Film; Germany) - Fully unedited, but with german episode titles hardcode in each episode
R4 (Magna Pacific; Australia) - Unedited except for ep 8, where 1 minute of footage is missing for unknown reasons
R1 (Mill Creek Entertainment; US) - Unedited except for ep 19, where roughly 45 seconds of footage is missing, the release does contain an extended pilot episode not seen in any other release.

I know most people would have just recorded the eps off ABC if they knew this would happened 15 years later

For your completeness you'd want the original ending to "Of Ice and Men", which is not included in ANY release (I doubt it even reaired), where the family watched the premiere of the Jackie Thomas Show.

At least the R1 re-release is the most complete one (and one can hope the Mill Creek season 8-9 sets will fix all those music edits). I have no idea why those 45 seconds were cut out of S1E19.. maybe they were cut for time originally and added when the episode reaired.

Wow, looks like I have to take Roseanne off my DVD purchase list

I want to so bad but I just always had a issue buying incomplete eps. I'm a fan and would just rather watch it on TV.

Then again there are definatly no syndicated prints on the Mill Creek editions. The episodes of season one are all in the 23-24+ (pilot even 25+) minute range. Except for "Mall Story" which originally ran short. I have compared foreign market airings and all copies of that episode are in the 22:20 range.

Compare a syndicated 21:50 episode to the 25:15 of the pilot episode...

Millcreek's seasons 7 & 8, are being released in March, announced today on TVSODVD.com. They said when they started with season one (Anchor Bay release also edited) that all seasons should be un-cut. So I'm anxious to see if season 8 is indeed, un-cut!! I especially want The Patty Duke Show spoof, from episode one!!!

Default Get the boxset from Sweden/Finland.

I bought it in Summer 2011, basically becuase it was cheap, but there are no special features whatsoever.

However, all the episodes appear to be fully uncut, including the very first show with a different "Roseanne" logo at the start (and with a blue hue surrounding the title font).

That clip from Season 8 with the nearly identical Beckys is indeed there.

The boxset is for sale on Amazon and play.com

It is listed under ROSEANNE COMPLETE COLLECTION BOX SEIZOEN 1-9 and all episodes are in English with removable subtitles.

Hope this helps, everyone!

*P.S., Believe it or not, I'd actually like to get the Anchor Bay edited boxsets because of the extra features. I have bought Seasons 1, 5 and 8 and was shocked by the edits, but it was the special features I wanted to have. So, it's pretty-much the best of both worlds, LOL!

Anchor Bay's US release of Roseanne seasons 1, 8 & 9, were edited.

What's messed up is American TV series' being released with edited episodes in the U.S., yet they are released completely un-cut in other countries!!

They're are several shows that this has happened with, and I think its OUTRAGIOUS!
