Default NYC Hurriciane Sandy Survivors

I heard that the death toll there is currently 22.

I know at least three people in NYC who are also posters here: *ROGER*, Brian_Damage, and JamesG. I know *ROGER* is okay, but I haven't heard from the other two yet.

I know JamesG was fully prepared for this, but I'm still worried. Please pray for his and Brian's safety, and for all the other NYC SO posters.

I hope Brian and James are okay.

I'm still waiting to hear back from the insurance company on the damage to my home.

There was a horrible fire near me in Breezy Point, Queens. A lot of damage there. Really, everything is just about gone in that area...very heartbreaking. What's also so sad is the death and injuries.

I hope Brian and James are able to sign in soon.

I know James lives in Brooklyn, but I'm not sure about Brian.

And I'm also not sure how badly Brooklyn was damaged, or how many people died there, compared to all the other boroughs in NYC. What I do know, of course, is that the power is down there, so at least as far as JamesG is concerned, that could be why we haven't heard from him yet.

My prayers go to all the people in harms way. I hope Brian and James and everyone is safe from all this.

I can only imagine how horrible it must be over there. Has anyone heard from Pav? I know he lives in NJ.

Brian is in Staten Island, NY... Last I heard, SI was pretty much underwater. They still may be without power yet. I checked his FB, and aside from one post from a friend there earlier this week, he hasn't checked in. I hope he's OK also.

The Red Hook neighborhood in Brooklyn got slammed pretty hard with flooding... But other than that I think most of Brooklyn made it out OK.

I wish em the best. I hope all is well with them. I know I live in Central NY and the damn thing went right around us. I couldn't believe it either, it was like a miracle or something. We got barely any rain. The only hole in the storm was directly over Syracuse NY where I live. Go figure.

My prayers go out to those affected by this storm. Bear in mind Sandy was a Minimal Hurricane!

I'm wondering about Pav too. He hasn't even been doing the Blog. I hope he's okay.

I don't even live in the east coast, or anywhere near it, but already, this thing is making me feel scared.

I'm hearing different reports on the current death toll as of today.

I wish there was a list of Hurricane Sandy victims right about now to be sure.

With regards to Brooklyn, last I heard, at least 7 people were dead there, including a young Jewish couple (not sure about the other 5).

Over at Staten Island, 19 are dead there right now.

I heard that much of NJ is still without power... Could explain Pav's absence. (Reminder: He's in Linden, NJ, which is ~20 miles from NYC) I did a quick skim of the news for his town... I'm not seeing much news, just a bunch of articles about the refineries in Linden shutting down before Sandy and the gas shortages there. I hope he's OK too!

Cool I'm OK

Hey everyone. Thank you for the well wishes.

I've had no major damage, but I've been w/o power since approx. 4:30 P.M. Monday. I'm at an internet cafe so I'll talk in more detail when everything's back to normal.

Basically our street's power comes from above ground cables and a huge tree one block from my home fell into a house knocking out the cables. ConEd can't fix anything until they get that tree out of there. It won't be an easy job since there are live wires so they can't "just chop".

It's the city's responsibility to get that tree out of there and nobody is getting any definite updates on when the work will begin. I took photos of this so I'll post them later on.

I've been doing A LOT of reading to help pass the time. Showering and shaving at a friend's home because I have no hot water. I have tons of food, batteries, candles, lights, blankets... so I'm ok as far as supplies go.

I'll check in when I can, but I read in today's NY Daily News that those with above ground cables may not get their power until Veteran's Day (Nov. 11th).

Glad to hear you're doing okay. Maybe your power will be up & running before the 11th. There are a lot of Tennessee volunteers from the Red Cross, local churches & the power companies that are coming to help out. I bet other states are sending help too.

I'm glad to see that you're okay James. Its sad about your power though. Hopefully it'll be fixed before too long.
