Anybody here a recovering alcoholic? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I'm 3 weeks sober. Recently new to this life of sobriety, and damn, alcohol is extremely hard to give up! I stopped attending aa meetings and its even more difficult. I don't know how I managed this long. Any one here a recovering alcoholic? I would love some advice, support (granted the majority of you guys are pissed off at me on here). Love much.

My brother-in-law is a recovering alcoholic who can now measure his sobriety in years. Going to AA meetings sure was helpful for him so i would suggest you give them another chance. (By the way Ramona I'm not pissed off at you at all!)

Never stop fighting for yourself, and always stay on guard. I've seen countless people recover from a lifetime of addiction to drugs and/or alcohol. If they can do it, so can you. Best of luck!

I spent my life recovering from the affects of Alcohol and I have never drank. But my mother did and she made my life miserable when she did. It amazes me that the kids can also feel the affect of alcohol. Some grow up and repeat the sickness, only to become their parents. But others, like me, stay away from it because of the pain it caused as a kid. I have a beautiful daughter I raised on my own and because I avoided drugs and alcohol, she had a wonderful normal upbringing. She is 21 now and on occasion thanks me for being a sobor father.

The withdraws are very difficult to overcome, but remember this. You will return to normal and the withdraws will be gone. I don't know if you suffer panic attacks or cold sweats. For my mother, it was panic attacks and she didn't want to be around anyone, and was only happy when she was sleeping. The best way to deal is try real hard to get your mind on something else. You may not want to, but you have to force yourself. The biggest thing with many people is the depression and heighten sense of emotion. Good luck.

Try and find non-alcoholic drink replacements, like chocolate milk or juice.
