Default The Bicycle Man on Nick at Nite?

Hi All,

I didn't get a chance to catch all of the episodes of Different Strokes on Nick at Nite. I would assume that they have not, nor ever will show "Bicycle Man" because of it's "adult" content. Too which I say if this is true....Curse Nick at Nite for becoming the "Politicaly Correct Disney Network" Yes this is the same network that edits their shows even worse than TV Land in some cases, doesn't show the All in the Family episode where Edith is sexualy assualted in her living room, (Edith's 50th Birthday) and takes out the Brady Bunch line in "Bobby's Hero" about Bobby not growing up "7 foot 2 and Black" or "The Munsters episode "Herman's Piece Offering" where Herman is encouraging Eddie to fight a bully.

Anyway, what do you guys think about this? Has Bicycle Man ever been shown on Nick at Nite?

Thumbs down

N@N is has become so conservative its sickening. With them, I feel like we are reverting back to the 1950s instead of moving FORWARD. No, they have never shown that great 2-part episode, nor will they. Fortunately, their sister station TV Land played it during a marathon several months back. At this point, I would take ANY Diff'rent Strokes, but N@N foolishly pulled it from its lineup without EVER playing SEVERAL episodes (not just the controversial ones).

I don't think The Bicycle Man will be shown again for a lot of years. I think that was just a one off special that time on TV Land.

You might be right but do you think it's possible that there is some other reason Nick At Nite isn't playing that episode? I know that sometimes when a network picks up a new show for some reason they can't get the rights to play certain episodes for whatever reason. The reason I don't think they would ban that one is because they played the episode where Arnold and Kimberly get kidnapped And that one was just as controversial as bicycle man. I wonder if I emailed nick at nite if they would answer if they banned that episode or not. It's worth a try.

I don't think that is correct. TV Land played the Arnold & Kimberly kidnapping, not N@N. I guess its possible that N@N could not get rights to every episode, but its just too much of a coincidence that they just HAPPEN NOT TO PLAY any episode of Diff'rent Strokes that could be considered the least bit controversial. The Bicycle Man, Bulimia, Arnold & Kimberly's kidnapping, Sam's kidnapping, and the one where Arnold's friend had a drinking problem ALL never aired on N@N. Luckily, TV land had the balls to play these classic episodes. What I don't understand -- and this has been mentioned before -- if N@N is so afraid of controversy, why the hell do they carry "All In The Family"?? I'm glad they do, but that whole series was controversial!!

Your right, i'm sorry it was TV Land who played Kimberly and Arnold's kidnapping. Iv'e never understood why Tv Land would play the controversial episodes and not Nick At Nite. Aren't they owned by the same company. That's why I thought maybe Nick didn't have the rights to those episodes because I don't understand why they wouldn't play them when there partner station would. Does anyone know the answer to this?

I know the answer to that... It's becuase Nick at Nite (also with Nickelodian) attracks all of the Nickelodian fanfair... I have been watchign Nick at Nite since i was in abotu 1st or 2nd grade... it's not a false statement that kids as young as like 5 or 6 watch Nick at Nite.

ALSO, Nickelodian/Nick at Nite is a STANDARD must have from ALL cable suppliers. TVLand, although carried by most cable supplers *IE Time Warner Cable*, is not a standard must have from all cable suppliers. TVLand is allowed to play any and all episodes that Nick at Nite's Company (Viacom i believe it is called) purchases.

Nick at Nite also has a tendancy to make certain show's (Facts of Life, Diff'rent Strokes, The Brady Bunch, etc.) free of all faults... Meaning that they try to keep it as innocent as possible and treat the show like it's got nothing wrong with it, and to do that, they don't play the contraverisal episodes that might scare little kids. They play those "Certain" shows at the earlier time slots when the younger kids tend to watch... Remember that DS and FOL and BB were on at the 9/8 central to 11/10 central time slots... and then came All in teh Family, Three's Company and such.

Just for an FYI... i don't remember if it was Nick at Nite or TVLand... but the episode of All in the Family where Edith was attacked was aired.. i BELIEVE it WAS NaN who played the episode! I remember watchign it and remember how "contraversial" the ep was. It however was played at around 11 or 12 at night!

But, NaN does confuse me sometimes! Becuase they will play the contraversial episodes during the week marathon, but goodluck seeing it later! For FOL, i beleive they played that contraversial epsiode called Shoplifting, and then Growing Pains i think was played. For DS I think that the episode where willis does pot was played.. i'm not sure and please correct me if i'm wrong. and there was another one i thought. But, for some show's they'll play episodes that might be considered contraversial to another show! Like they played episodes from Three's Company and The Cosby Show that deal with pot, but not with FOL, Lavern and Shirley, or DS! Although i hate to try to understand NaN.. i'll explain why i think they play some eps over others and you tell me if you agree. I think that NaN played the pot eps of Cosby and TC becuase it was all fairly innocent type or things. They never showed them smoking it, admitting it was their's, or knowing it was there. in the DS, FOL, and i think in the Lavern and Shirley ep, they show them smoking it, or they admit that they had it... it's all in a matter of how the subject was dealt with.

But TVLand sure did treat DS nice!! they played almost every contraversial episode in the book!!! They played: Little Mother, the one where willis does Pot, A Growing Problem (although i dont think that was was contraversial) the bycycle man, hitch hikers, sam's missing, bulimia, cheer's to arnold, the reporter, etc.

I guess we'll all have to learn how to deal with NaN better, becuase i'm sure they will never change!!

And now that i have completely talked yoru ear off, i'll shut up!!!
