Curse of the Blair Witch (1999) on VHS

This is a faux-documentary that originally aired on The Sci-Fi Channel (Syfy) shortly before The Blair Witch Project's theatrical release.

It gives the origin of the Blair Witch legend, interviews relatives of the "missing students" and shows how law enforcement didn't find anything in their investigation.

* It had a standalone VHS release but is available as a special feature on The Blair Witch Project's Special Edition DVD and Blu-ray release.

Tells the story of a dysfunctional family living in South East London going through every problem imaginable: domestic abuse, drugs, booze, theft...

* Was written, produced and directed by Gary Oldman. It was loosely based on his childhood experiences growing up in London.

It remains as the only film that he has ever written and directed.

I always watch this when I watch BWP, another good BWP faux-docu is The Burkittsville 7- which focuses on Rustin Parr. There's a few scenes that creeped me out.

Three teenage runaways wind up kidnapping a depressed, suicidal old man (Martin Landau) and they make him take them cross-country buying things for them.

It turns into an eye-opening experience for everyone.

He finds an unusual accomplice: 16-year-old Roxy, who shares his sense of rage and disenfranchisement.

Excellent, very very dark comedy written and directed by Bobcat Goldthwait.)
