Now that NBC has put "Animal Practice" out of it's misery by cancelling the freshmen series; Gen-TV has gone ahead and snapped up it's lead star, Justin Kirk for a non-exclusive five-million dollar contract effective October 18, 2012- October 18, 2016.
For his first gig on the contract, Kirk will make a guest appearance in five episodes of sophomore drama series "American Suburbia" which returns in January. He will play the mysterious and possibly psychotic brother of Michelle Williams character, who last season discovered her father played by Treat Williams was the leader of a satanic cult that was responsible for much of the other-worldly activity in her small town. In the season finale she believed she had found a way to rid him of his satanic possession, and viewers will find out in January if it worked. In related news, Joanna Garcia-Swisher who had been pulling double-duty on Gen-TV's "Better with You" and NBC's "Animal Practice" will now return to "Better with You" full-time, due to working on both series, her character had been reduced to one or two scenes an episode on BWY. ---------- |

Some months ago, Gen-TV spent the largest sum in reality TV history to secure the rights to a series hosted by and starring the fame monster herself as she searches for back-up dancers for her 2012 World Tour, which is still in full-swing. The series now amply titled "Lady Gaga Presents: Search For The Next Monster".
The reality series which was ordered last Fall and took nearly a year to complete filming of, due to Gaga's hectic schedule will now debut November 1st at 9pm; in the timeslot left vacant by the exit of "GCB" from the schedule the previous week. The one-hour series will follow sixteen male and sixteen female dancers as they compete in various obstacles, trivia rounds and dance tasks for a starring role as a back-up dancer for Lady Gaga's 2012 World Tour. The winner will receive a contract worth 25,000 dollars to appear as Gaga's lead back-up dancer in at least 15 Gaga' live shows in countries around the world. They will also get a management contract with Gaga's management company C.A.A. (Creative Artists Agency) worth 10,000 dollars and the opportunity to appear with Gaga in various interviews and press junkets. The series will air for a period of 20-weeks, with several planned pre-emptions in-between it's premiere and finale. |

Gen-TV reached a huge milestone last season when its newly syndicated series netted record profits for the young network. Series such as "One of These Days", "Boyfriends" and "The Huntress' entered the second-run market and combined with other properties produced over 40 million dollars in profit for Gen-TV Studios. The news was even sweeter with other programs such as "This Time Around", "Postal" and "Sisters" poised to pull even bigger numbers when they reached the market later in the year. Well now both those series, as well as others, have joined other Gen-TV Productions in the second-run market and as expected have netted extraordinary results. Since launching in national second-run syndication on August 12th, "This Time Around" has become the fourth most-watched syndicated program on Television, and has produced profits upwards of 15.8 million dollars for Gen-TV Studios, a number surprising considering recent ratings for the series final primetime season have headed south. Meanwhile, "Sisters", fresh in the midst of it's most critically acclaimed season yet has also set a record of it's own; it has become the #1 most watched syndicated property on the market and has fetched profits of 30 million dollars for the studio. Since it debuted in strip syndication on September 10th, 2012, it has averaged 6.6 million viewers daily. On the sitcom side, "Postal" entered local syndication last week and has been a moderate hit, with an average of 2.4 million viewers daily and a estimated profit of 6.3 million dollars for Gen-TV studios expected by year's end. Though a cable deal for that series has yet to be reached, it is believed the program will get such an offer soon. Gen-TV's success in the syndication market has continued with it's older series as well, "The Huntress" is a massive hit on both cable; where daily runs on A&E have fetched 11.3 million dollars this season and average about 3.5 million viewers each episode. In the local arena it rates #7 nationally. "One of These Days" continues to be a nationwide hit where it sits as the #2 most-watched syndicated series on TV and is poised to produce over 23 million dollars for the network by the end of the year. Nobody at Gen-TV should be worried about success suddenly stopping them either, as they have no less than eight other programs set to enter syndication next year. Among the programs set to reach the market are major hits "Elizabeth Bordoe", "Over My Head" and "Knocked Down" all three of which are expected to become major successes in the second-run world. "Over My Head" was such a hit that it was pre-sold into cable syndication last year, and it will air on Lifetime on weekdays and TBS on weekends. Also forecast to become success are "Better with You", "Gone", "Abducted" and "West of Broadway", all of which will have produced well-over 100 episodes by next year. "Better with You' will enter the market first and is believed to be one to watch, it's huge ratings on Gen-TV lead all to think that it will become a syndication mainstay. The common thought is that "Gone" and "Abducted" will each fetch substantially lower numbers than that series, but will do well. Now, for the record: Here is a list of the Top 20 Second-Run Series Nationally (non-cable): 1. Sisters, Gen-TV Studios 2. One of These Days, Gen-TV Studios 3. Seinfeld, NBC-Universal 4. Breaking News from Gen-TV:
The network announced today that the current season will be the final one for long-running drama "The Huntress". Ratings for the now five-year old drama have dipped considerably from it's last season which aired this past summer. Insiders expected the network would allow the program the benefit of the doubt to see how it performs in it's new Friday timeslot, which it inherits in January; before deciding it's fate. However, Jeremy Morton, Vice President of Entertainment for the network says "Though we have always had faith in The Huntress, it has become clear that viewers have lost interest." Tom Dalton, the President of Entertainment (and Jeremy's boss) went a step further and said "Over the course of this season it became obvious to us that writers and producers on this program have run out of creative and engaging ideas to prolong the life of this valuable franchise." The cast reaction has been quick and swift, with Shannen Doherty showing up on Entertainment Tonight with the following statement "I am so thankful to all the fans who have watched for the last five seasons and truly embraced my character and given me a second chance at life." "It was clear to me that the time has come for this show to end, and I look forward to my future which is a whole lot brighter than it would have been without this series." Former cast-member Molly Culver who left the show last season said on Access Hollywood "I want to thank all my friends and family from The Huntress for four years of excellent memories they gave me. I am sad to hear the news that we have been cancelled, but I believe that time is right." Lastly, former cast member Mo'Nique wrote on her personal weblog "Goodbye to The Huntress, my former home. God Bless you all." The series finale of The Huntress will air in May, concluding the series five year run and wrapping up all it's storylines. |

On the heels of cancelling "The Huntress" after five seasons comes word that another Gen-TV drama, "Sisters" will live to see another day. The still massively successful family tear-jerker has been renewed through the 2015-2016 season, bringing the series through it's seventh season. This would make it the longest-running program in it's network's history. No other Gen-TV series has lasted beyond six seasons.
The contract for this program was set to expire in January 2013 and all parties involved felt it was best to being discussions in advance. This isn't surprising considering the huge ratings the series brings each week, this season averaging 42.37 million viewers per episode. It is currently the #1 rated drama series on television and Gen-TV's most popular series. On-top of the three season pick-up, this news comes with hefty pay bumps for it's principal cast. Though the entire cast received hefty raises back in December 2011, this new bump will make the cast the richest cast in television today. Previously, Sherry Stringfield got a 20% pay increase, which had her making 1.5 million per episode; well as of today she will be granted a 14% increase. She will now make 1.71 million per episode. Here is the breakdown on the rest of the cast: Lisa Nicole Carson--- Was making 1.2 million per episode has gotten pay increase of 14% will now make 1.36 million per episode Elizabeth Rohm--- Was making 1.2 million per episode has gotten pay increase of 14% will now make 1.36 million per episode Maura West--- was making 1.1 million per episode has gotten pay increase of 14% will now make 1.25 million per episode Ming-Na Wen--- was making 95,000 per episode has gotten pay increase of 14% will now make 108,300 per episode Jere Burns--- was making 86,000 per episode has gotten pay increase of 14% will now make 99,180 per episode Rupert Everett--- was making 91,000 per episode has gotten pay increase of 14% will now make 103,740 per episode Jean Smart--- was making 91,000 per episode has gotten pay increase of 14% will now make 103,740 per episode Other cast members only appear on a recurring basis and are thus not eligible for the pay increase. and Alicia Silverstone exited the series last season and is no longer on the program. Her character, Dede was killed off when she was run over by a bus as she developed cold feet and ran out on her wedding. A proposed spin-off featuring her character as a newlywed never took hold and was canceled. |
