Default Why did Willona........

I was watching Good Times last night and the early espisode when Penny was over at the Evans house when JJ dumped his date; Remember when Wilona brought over a dress for Penny to try on to wear? My question is why in the hell would Wilona to have Penny to try on the dress in the living room instead of the bathroom Remember that is how Willona found out about the bruises on Penny's Back by zipping the back of Penny's shirt,...SMH, everyone already saw the bandage on her arm, so as an adult, Willona should have taken Penny in a private room.....SMH

Just like the characters of the Evans family, it's very likely that the producers of this show was on a very small shoestring budget and simply didn't have the money for anything more than a prop bathroom DOOR.

I understand why they did like that so they can set up the discovery of the burns

But from a Good Times reality perspective, she could have just gave Penny the dress to put on in Thelma's or Florida's room

I've never thought of that either. Good question.

But Wilona and Thelma could have taken Penny in Florida's room to change her dress. Wilona and Thelma could have discovered the burns.

She was old enough to get dress on her own

Depends on the outfit, I'm 31 and there are some pieces that I wear and I need help buttoning or zipping up. But the whole point of that scene was to show Penny's bruises. So Thelma and Wilona should have taken Penny into Florida's room, they could have still shown the bruises for the TV audience.

I always assumed Willona helped to take off Penny's sweater and discovered the injury on her arm, not that she was helping her to undress right there in the living room. It's been a while since I saw the episode so I don't recall if Willona actually told Penny to try on the dress right there in the living room. Willona could have had her take off her sweater there and planned to take her to the room. As they questioned her, Penny turned her back on Willona and began lying about her injury. At that point I always felt Willona saw something on Penny's back and that was why she unzipped the zipper to get a better view. The camera was on Penny's face, as if to allow Willona to be sneaky and unzip the dress.

That is how I always viewed it.

Yes Willona was in the process of taking her clothes off in the living room and started with the sweater

Yeah, I just saw it on youtube and Willona does unzip her dress, but I see it as her noticing something on Penny's back, she then unzips the dress to get a better look, not that she was unzipping the dress so Penny could try on the bigger dress. There was no need for Penny to even take off her summer dress since the dress Willona wanted her to try on was an adult woman's dress, something that could have been tried on over Penny's dress just to get a feel of how it might look on her.

This is what I think Wilona should have done to keep the show interesting:

1. Brought The Dress Over For Penny To Try On.

2. Have Penny To Try On The Dress In Either The Bathroom, Florida's Room Or Thelma's Room and tell Penny to let them know when she is done trying the dress on.

3 Penny Should Have Called Wilona Or Thelma Into The Room After Trying On The Dress To Make Sure That she can fit the dress.

4. After Wilona or Thelma walked into the room where Penny tried on the dress, that Is When They Should Have Discovered The Burns Bringing Penny Into The Living Room being in shock.

5. Last, is when Penny's Mother Knocked On The Door & That's When The Show Should Have Ended To Be Continued....
