Movie Charles Schulz's "Peanuts" Film to Hit Theaters November 2015

Charles Schulz's Peanuts Film to Hit Theaters November 2015
10/9/2012
by Tatiana Siegel

Twentieth Century Fox Animation and Blue Sky Studios have acquired big-screen rights to the late Charles Schulz’s Peanuts franchise.

The deal marks the culmination of more than two years of discussions about on the film’s creative direction between the studio and members of the Schulz family.

The untitled animated film has been scheduled for release on Nov. 25, 2015. That year will mark the 65th anniversary of the debut of the Peanuts comic strip and the 50th anniversary of the TV special A Charlie Brown Christmas.

Steve Martino, whose credits include Ice Age: Continental Drift and Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who!, will direct the untitled feature.

The screenplay is by Craig Schulz and the writing team of Bryan Schulz & Cornelius Uliano. Craig Schulz and Bryan Schulz are Schulz’s son and grandson, respectively. The three writers are also onboard to produce.

The film will be based on Schulz's influential comic strip, which was read at the height of its popularity by 355 million people in 75 countries.

Playing a key role in the deal was Neil Cole, president and CEO of Iconix Brand Group, which, in a joint venture with Charles M. Schulz Creative Associates, formed Peanuts Worldwide in 2010, home to the Peanuts property.

"We are thrilled to partner with the Schulz family and Iconix and honored to bring the Peanuts characters to the big screen," said Vanessa Morrison, president of Twentieth Century Fox Animation. "This all started with our love and respect for the work of Charles Schulz. We thank the Schulz family and Iconix for letting Fox and Blue Sky bring his vision to new generations of filmgoers."

Twentieth Century Fox Animation director of development Ralph Millero worked closely with Morrison and with the Schulz estate in securing the rights to the property.

CAA and Ziffren brokered the deal for the writer, producers, Iconix and Peanuts Worldwide.

If they give this film the same love that the team behind 2011's Happiness Is a Warm Blanket, Charlie Brown gave that special, then I'm on board. That was the best Peanuts animated special in decades.

hopefully they use the familiar classic animation style - no one wants to see the peanuts in 3D or CGI

I agree. That would definitely take away from the special appeal that the Peanuts characters have had for generations.

Cool

I'm glad Charles Schultz son and grandson are part of this project and will be there to protect his legacy!

I wonder if it'll be like "A Boy Named Charlie Brown"...but with Woodstock?

Charlie Brown Movie: 3D Adaptation To Hit Theaters in 2015
04/18/2013

Charlie Brown in 3-D? Good grief!

In an unexpected move, it turns out the big-screen Charlie Brown adaptation that was announced in October is the latest to join the never-ending slate of 3D movies on tap. Everyone's favorite yellow and black-clad comic-book character is slated for a 2015 theatrical release.

Twentieth Century Fox announced the news Thursday at CinemaCon. Very few details were revealed about the production, and the announcement came only with a 3D image of Charlie Brown projected onto the screen at the convention, according to The Wrap.

Blue Sky Studios, the Fox animation company responsible for Horton Hears a Who! and the Ice Age series, will create the movie.

Steve Martino (Horton, Ice Age: Continental Drift) has been recruited to direct. It took two years to obtain the rights to the beloved story, as creator Charles Schultz, who died in 2000, has kept a tight lock on his material.

Schultz's son Craig and grandson Bryan co-wrote the screenplay, with assistance from short-film writer and director Cornelius Uliano.

The 3D resurrection will mark the first Charlie Brown feature since 1980's Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown (and Don't Come Back!!. It is expected to hit theaters on Nov. 15, 2015, just 10 days before the Finding Nemo sequel, Finding Dory, will arrive.

Oh, I'm so excited about this, but 2015 seems so far away! How sad that it's not.... My husband and I are HUGE Peanuts fans so we are definitely going to see this!

Movie

It seems that the studio heads think that nobody will pay to see hand-drawn animation in 2013. Everything has to be "drawn" by computers. Kids today don't know what a real cartoon is. (Sigh!)

Yes, sadly -- but I wonder how this will compare with the old ViewMaster reels from Sawyer/GAF, where the Peanuts gang is in 3-D? Also, with all of the merchandising over the years, I guess it's not to difficult to imagine the dolls and figures put into motion.

For the first time ever, Snoopy, Charlie Brown and the rest of the gang we know and love from Charles Schulz's timeless "Peanuts" comic strip will be making their big-screen debut; like they've never been seen before in a CG-Animated Feature film in 3D.
