Default Super Bowl Lead-Out Programs

The Super Bowl is the National Football League's championship game, and typically the highest-rated single U.S. television broadcast of any given year. In turn, the program aired immediately following coverage of the game in the U.S. is typically also one of the year's most watched television programs. The Super Bowl lead-out programme is typically aired across most U.S. markets simultaneously, and is usually one hour in length. Currently, a regular-length episode of a drama series can usually air, although in some cases, a one-hour episode of a sitcom which is normally 30 minutes in length or two episodes of different sitcoms paired together may air instead. Quite often, the selected series is one of the "prestige" shows for the network showing the game that year, or a moderate hit which the network wants to give a higher profile.

Here are a list of Super Bowl lead-out programs over the years:

IIRC, #17 was on NBC, therefore The A-Team followed that on NBC. Just thought I'd bring that up.

New shows premiering after the game don't seem to last long, does anyone remember Grand Slam or The Last Precinct?

The only ones that did were The A-Team on NBC, followed SB XVII and The Wonder Years on ABC, followed SB XXII.

Also, I think Jimmy Kimmel Live debuted after Super Bowl 37 in 2003.

You know what the slot for the Super Bowl lead-out program shouldn't be wasted by?

* Reality shows
* Animated "sliding timescale" shows
* Programs in "final season" status at the time of the SB taking place (which is at midseason)
* Programs that have already aired as SB lead-out program once

The first two types of shows on this list should be banned from the post-SB slot. The SB lead-out program should be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity (a program should be SB lead-out only once in a show's run).

Pretty good choice, although I thought they'd go with 2 Broke Girls since I'm sure all of the dads in America would stick around to watch Kat Dennings. I guess the issue there is that they don't really have a strong comedy to pair it with though.

What I highlighted in bold. What does "sliding timescale" shows mean?

Elementary is a pretty good choice for a lead out program. You just hope the game is close, so you dont lose the audience.

Btw, why would dads like Kat Dennings for?
