Default Another Maude connection

The man who interviewed James in TOO OLD BLUES was a employee at Walter's store in season 2 of Maude

BTW: I'm in no way trying to say that Good Times was a spinoff just connected by episode ideas and guest stars

I've been watching the reruns of Maude off and on...and I have come to the conclusion that you are right, Sol. GT is not a spinoff (in the truest sense).

Similar storylines and lots of the same guests but definitely not a spinoff

The whole changing of Florida and James (or Henry)'s backstory and also having them pretend like they never lived in NY or worked for Maude or that Henry was a fireman.....BAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

I've been watching some Maude dvds of mine lately, and I also noticed some of the same "laugh tracks" from Good Times- one in particular is a woman laughing kind of nervously when something shocking was just said or happens- kind of a "wooo-hoo-hooo". Its almost identical to the one I heard on GT VERY often on a number of eps. Just something I noticed

Just because some things lack fluid continuity does not mean they can't be spinoffs. Just what qualifies as a spinoff to you guys? LOL.

Good Times has been a spinoff for almost 40 years and will always be a spinoff. That will never, ever change.

How in the world can a show be a spinoff when it was created before the parent show?

Was the Jeffersons created before AITF?

Was Laverne and Shirley created before Happy days?

Was Facts of Life created before Different Strokes?

That holds no validity at all. Knots Landing was created before "Dallas" its parent show. Like "Good Times", it didn't surface until after its parent show. Sorry Solomon but it was a nice try. I do agree that the debate is over...and has been for about six years in my favor!!!

How in the world can Good Times be a spin-off of Maude when Good Times was created BEFORE Maude? Just because Maude aired first makes no difference. And just because Ester Rolle was a character in both shows also makes no difference.

The actress who played the role of Penny's bio mom (Ms. Gordon) on Good Times also appeared in What's Happening as Shirley's sister. Does that make What's Happening a spin-off of Good Times?

1) It is a spinoff because of the two characters that were used in Good Times coming from Maude. We got Florida Evans from Maude so it does make a difference.

2) There were other shows that were conceived (ie Knots Landing) before the parent shows but put on the back burner. Knots Landing and Good Times were ushered onto the small screen through parent shows using existing characters from the parent shows.

3) Laverne Chip Fields-Hurd appearing on What's Happening and Good Times is irrelevant for spinoff argument because she was Shirley's sister on the show first and then a different role a year later on Good Times. However, both shows have Bud Yorkin producing behind them.

4) Norman Lear said it himself through video proof that was posted on this very message board.

5) I also posted Ru Paul, Esther Rolle and Bea Arthur in a 1998 interview and they stated that it was a spinoff.

We would not have the vibe that we have from Good Times if it hadn't been for Rolle being Florida Evans on Maude to begin with. Folks, we can argue circles but it is what it is...a spinoff!!!

I can destroy your 1st point. It was only 1 character that went to Good Times. James Evans was never on Maude

That's true, John Amos' character name on Maude was Henry.

I can destroy your counter point: John Amos was STILL Mr. Evans on BOTH SHOWS! He is still a derived product from Maude. First names can change. Storylines can be changed and adjusted. In the movie "Meet the Browns", Cora Simmons (Madea's daughter) had two daughters. On the TV show, they never existed. Like I said before, spinoffs don't have to be perfect to meet with our level of convenience. It's TV! It's creativity! People have a right to switch things around if they choose to do so.

Florida was spunoff into her own sitcom, why is that so hard for folks to graps. Even on Maude her name was Florida Evans.
