it seems As if Jeffrey had some Kind of Conscience....
In A Matter Of Mothers, Jeffrey was pretending to like Willona just so he could get paid by Mrs. Gordon to help set her up as a bad mother so Mrs. gordon could get Penny back.... in the elavator scene, he said something along the lines of, "I think," and Mrs. Gordon said, "I don't pay you to think!" I think, by his tone, he was about to say, "I think you're going to far," in the very end, he actually looked embarrassed when he said, 'Any other place, you still would have been to good for me," to Willona after he got busted as being a paid pawn in Mrs Gordon's scheme. it seemed he had some kind of conscience, but saw dollar signs....

I personally think that the elevator scene should have been cut out. Imagine the shock that would have ensued if Mrs. gordon had just walked into Willona's apartment saying, "The mistake seems to have been yours," without having been seen prior.
