watching a show on Fox now and I can't believe it's so many damm commercials for a 30 min show. Seems like it;s a commercial break every 6 mins. Feels like I;m a a show on TV Land instead of Fox with all these interruptions
Is this the case on CBS, ABC, and NBC? Is it better to watch all sitcoms on the internet? |

Current half hour shows is anywhere from 21:30 to 22:30 after commercials.

All sitcoms are on a three act break system now - a commercial break after the 7 minute mark or so, then one about halfway through, and another before the tag. So yeah pretty much the same as FOX.

There are quite a few new shows out there right now, but I'm patient enough to wait until they come out on DVD so I can watch them WITHOUT the commercials.
With one month to go it has to be H LL out there right now!

I don't watch shows on the internet so I don't know about that.Plus since I don't watch any new shows I can't be of much help. I was going to mention On Demand but I see Fox like some other channels, blocks the fast forward button. Only thing I can suggest is if you do not have a DVR,why not just record the show on a VCR.

Fox gives their more popular sitcoms 31- to 33-minute timeslots (I call this technique "DVR killing), so you get even more commercials than you would during a 30-minute slot.
ABC does this, too. At least with Modern Family. |

You know this may sound a little crazy. Since the big networks like many cable channels have become not much more than advertising billboards, people who still watch those channels would all actually be better off if you could also have access to the live feed(exactly how it's presented)of some the main TV channels from other English speaking countries.Countries like the UK,Canada etc.And be able to view them on the television here. From what I know they air a lot of American shows too.Of course if that happenned it may put channels like ABC,CBS,NBC and Fox out of business.lol.

That's why I only watch 2 shows live anymore. I DVR the rest and skip the commercials.

I think NBC does this some too. I hardly ever even watch any new shows on network tv anymore. Two and a Half Men, Big Bang Theory, and Mike and Molly, all on CBS, are probably the only current shows I watch. Pretty much everything else I watch is classic reruns on Antenna TV, MeTV, or DVDs. And I watch local news.

I think 4 commercial breaks is way too many for a 30 minute show.

Actually, I think The Simpsons have 4 commerical breaks which is pretty annoying. I do think when those episodes are in syndication, I think there are only 2 commerical breaks.
Have you also noticed that on some shows they will come back from commerical for like a minute and then go to another commerical break? And yes, it bothers me too that when you have OnDemand, you cant fast forward commericals. The fast forward button is blocked. Seems like you just cant get away from commericals. |
