Oh No The Evans Were Idiots.....

They bragged about winning the Lottery right in front of Edna, a girl they didn't even know that well, but knew she had been in jail before. JJ should have pretended to have lost while Edna was there, and after she left, then tell the truth that he actually won.

a lot of people are idiots when they win the lottery - I've heard of people on the local news that won $50 on a scratch-off, then got mugged outside in the parking lot.

That's different, because they won the scratch off money in a public place where anyone could see them get the money. The Evans won the money in a private house.

I don't think that they were idiots. Since they lived in an apartment building I'm pretty sure that it would have spread throughout the neighborhood that they had won the lottery. So Rozzie and Edna would have tried to rob them anyway.

But wouldn't people with common sense keep their mouths shut and cash the ticket quietly?

In real life who would cash a ticket and not tell family and friends? It would have gotten out either way. Now they could have said that they won less money then what they actually won, that would have made more sense.

I agree, that was their private business and they should have been more discrete about it. Especially in front of someone they didn't know that well

What's your point? If J.J, Michael, Thelma or Florida would have told anyone besides Wilona, the word would have gotten out and spread like fire. So the Evans would have gotten held up, there isn't any way of getting around that.

Ok, and? Thelma was still tutoring Edna. Edna was going to rob them no matter what. They could have celebrated in private, and they would have still gotten robbed because one of them would have told a friend, and that friend would have told a friend and so on and so on. Word would have gotten back to Edna, they lived in the same neighborhood. Edna had access to the Evans.

No she wasn't going to rob them because to her they were just a typical project family until they won the LOOT

So are you saying that EVEN THOUGH she would have KNOWN that they had won the lottery she wouldn't have robbed them if she hadn't seen them celebrating? The girl had a gun. They won the lottery. Edna was going to rob them if she had seen them celebrating or not. All she had on her mind was "Steal their money."

No if the Evans had kept it quiet she would have had no reason to rob them

What family, who has never has a large sum of money at one time, a family who just won a lottery, is going to keep quite about that? I know if I would have won that $200 Million Powerball last week, I know for sure I would have told my immediate family and a few friends.
