Why was James and Florida so concerned that J.J didn't know what happened in year....

The most important subjects in school is Math and English so why the hell were they upset that he didn't know what happened in that year. He wouldn't have needed that information in the real world. Only that he knew how to read, write, and the basic math.


Then they go to the principal and say...."Our son doesn't know what happened in 1066?"

It's called getting an EDUCATION, you send your kids to school to learn, not to just sit there, and he was flunking.

But they wanted him to gain knowledge of the wrong subject. Like I said Math and English is what they should have been focusing on.

That is the knowledge you need in the real world. And it was proven when James came home from the interview and stated he couldn't effectively answer the question on the application...."why are you the person for the job"

Well with that logic, then everyone should stop going to school after the 6th grade. Everyone should just have a 6th grade education.

If they saw he had two passing grades that he didn;t earn in Math and History, why not just focus on math? History is irrelevant unless he wanted to be a History professor in the future LOL

No I don't think it was stupid. It was a question that was on his final test that he flunked but yet he passed the class on his report card.

But when they started saying he will need that knowledge for the real world, what the hell was she talking about?-lol I can see her trying to get him to EARN his grade he got on the report card but saying he will need to know what happened in 1066 when he is out of school was kind of.....

You do need to know History, and since J.J was into art, artist who paint should know History. Plus they didn't pick the question from the sky out of the blue, it was an answer that he should have known. He had just taken the test so he should have known the answer. And then they asked him a second question and he didn't know the answer to that one.

So explain to me why someone needs to know history in the real world? Math and English, yes but History?

Because every thing that happened the in past is important. That is like saying, "Why do you need to know about Slavery" or "Why is it important to learn about the Holocaust?".."Why do we need to know about WWI or WWII?"..." Who need to know about the Revolutionary War?"... "Why was John Smith so important." Knowing your past is important. It isn't about using it later, as long as you know it is what counts.

Yeah I agree the basic historical info like all the presidents and black history. But English I feel is more important because when I entered college I discovered I didn't know how to write and did poorly on all my papers-lol That's because my highschool did not prepare well for college and the main reason was because I never wrote a paper in highschool.

What is Basic historical info? Knowing some history but not all? All subjects are important, just because you might not use it in whatever career of your choice, it shouldn't be tossed aside. There are a lot of things that I learned in Algebra that I haven't used since High School, does that mean that some things in Algebra should be taught and others shouldn't?

In English Comp we read Julius Caesar, after we finished the book, we were given 3 speeches, and we had to pick one speech to memorize for our Final. After about a week we had to stand in front of our teacher and recite the speech without missing a word. Now since graduating High School I have never sat down and had a conversation with anyone at my job about Antony’s Speech that I had to memorize and recite. Till this day I can still recite Antony’s Speech word for word. Now was that useless information that I had to learn? No LOL.

Very well stated. History is important on so many levels. For one, by knowing history, we understand how we got to where we are. 1066 is a good example of this. Among many other important impacts, the year 1066 is a turning point in the development of the English language. If we want to understand the words that come out of our mouth, how we wound up with so many French words, you have to start with that year. Understanding that moment in history gives us greater understanding of English.

Learning about history helps us learn to think. We learn how to connect the dots and see how one event impacts others. History teaches us about the world and gives us information we need to know in order to properly evaluate current events and make informed choices in elections so that history doesn't repeat itself. Through the study of history, we better understand humanity.

Leaning history makes us more well-rounded and erudite individuals. It helps us throughout our lives by enabling us to carry on an intelligent conversation. If you're interviewing for a job and the interviewer brings up some important historical event and the interviewee doesn't know what they're talking about, the interviewee may come off looking like an idiot. Employers want to hire people who are well informed and intelligent, who aren't going to embarrass them in front of clients.

If a interviewer brought up a historical event not related to the job I;m applying for or the field that I;m in, I would politely end the interview and walk out

Maybe Florida and James should have explained that since J.J was passionate about being a Artist why it would be important for him to know the history of artists and why history is important


All they keep saying was.........."what happened in 1066? and never said why he should know the answer
