Default Amy or Debra

Which of the ladies is your favorite and in your opinion the better wife? For me it's Amy as I think Debra is a complete shrew with the exception of a hand full of episodes.

My favorite is Debra. I really like her spunk and street smarts. Yes Debra gets on Ray's case a lot but he needs it. Amy can do this too but in a "softer" So as wives it's kinda of a toss up.

I enjoy Debra in episodes such as "Why are we here, How We Met, Fascination Debra, The Get away, The Italy episodes, Frank and Marie's Anniversary"...episodes where she is actually nice to Ray. I like seeing them actually get along. I also love the last scene of the episode where Debra's mom comes to the house to tell her that she (and Debra's father) are getting divorced. She shows vulnerability and love and care for Ray. Oh one more, the finale when for those few seconds Ray doesn't wake up after surgery. But I just think Amy is feisty at times but overall much sweeter and kinder a woman.

Amy would probably be the better wife although she can be kind of dull at times, where as Debra isn't the greatest housewife but she does have spunk & backbone to stand up to all those Barones.

IMO, Debra is a complete bitch at best and so Amy is the better wife and person. Nothing wrong with having spunk and sticking up for yourself but she goes way over board and seems to think she's better than everyone.

I like them both. I wish Robert and Amy had gotten married sooner in the series. I loved Ray and Debra's fights.

Default Debra...

yes, she can be a little tough on Ray- but look at some of the stuff the guy does- he's a total bonehead at times. But we love them anyway.

I like Amy, too.

Well put, but they are two different people; one is right for Ray, and the other for Robert, imo.

I would not be too hard on Debra; considering on what, or whom, she has to put up with , I think she is remarkably self-controlled.

Crazy Amy a "Good Girl"?

I watch Raymond reruns all of the time. I recently saw one where Marie liked Amy better than Debra because Amy was a "good girl" (saved herself for marriage) and Debra was not.

However, I also saw an episode a week or so later where Amy and Robert had been "intimate" in Raymond's basement. Marie walked in on them and Robert ran upstairs in his policeman's shirt and Amy had on his pants.

Contradictory?

Thanks,
Donna

I actually preferred Joanne. It would have made for a very interesting show, if she had remained Robert's Wife.

Sorry for missing this. Interesting thought. Yes, Debra could be a tough ass but she had to be because in some areas Ray was inept or weak. Like the time he sets the kitchen on fire and tries to put it out with that dinky hose. Thank God Debra came down, went into Rambo mode and put the fire out in 10 seconds with that fire extinguisher. If if hadn't been for her the house would have burned down or been severely damaged. (and you can't help but wonder...did he pay the insurance? Remember how he totally screwed up handling the bills.). So... yes she could sometimes be a bi*** but with that family YOU had to be occasionally (with queen buttinskymanipulator Marie, yahoo Frank, sometimes weak-weenie Ray - you get the picture)

So overall, I liked Debra and thought she was really cool. One negative: her cooking sucked...she NEEDED cooking lessons no doubt about it .

On another note (O/T) Ray was no Ward Cleaver; calling Ray wise would really be a reach. Now Ward was one smart dad. Hugh did a magnificent job with the role. I think his minister background really added an extra dimension to the character and the show.

Thinking back with the order of the episodes I see you are right! I just saw the episode where Robert and Amy were intimate with each other and caught by Marie last night on my DVR. Good catch by the way!! I guess the writers should have done a better job at recalling what they wrote, huh?
