What was the reason she moved in with them? Was she friends with one of them from her childhood?

No, it was just a random roommate screening the guys were having. She found out her boyfriend was cheating on her and needed a place to stay so she took up their roommate application.

It's pretty common in big cities for people to just apply to be roommates with people they don't know...
