Default Mysterious phone calls in UM segments

One thing that's a bit of a (welcome) UM cliche is the "mysterious/threatening phone call."

I just watched the Charlie Anderson segment for the first time and there was a mystery caller who claimed to have info., but who refused to have his voice recorded. The officers told him to call back on a different line, but the guy never called back.

There's also the infamous "Judy Himes is alive and lives in Omaha" calls, possibly the MOST mysterious of all UM's shadowy communications

I know there are many others!

*I did a search on this topic and nothing came up, so I apologize if this has been covered already!

I rewatched this and interestingly enough, I'm pretty sure I recognized UM producer John Cosgrove providing the voice of the caller in the re-enactment.

Maybe Mr. Cosgrove WAS the mystery caller all along, but just didn't want to tell us .

Oh, tons. I think anonymous calls are one of the creepiest aspects of a segment. The ones that immediately come to mind are:

The "confession call" from "Don", who supposedly murdered Tracy Kirkpatrick.

The answering machine messages supposedly from Don Kemp.

Audrey Moate's ex-mother-in-law getting a phone call from someone claiming to be Audrey a few weeks after she disappeared.

Chance Wackerhagen's grandfather and the "Help me, help me!" call.

Chuck Morgan's wife and the cryptic call from "Green Eyes".

The Casie Nicole crew's families and those Spanish-English calls, speculated to be from someone in another country who knows what became of the missing.

L'Enfant.

The male who called in about Monika Rizzo's murder. I wonder if they ever found out who he is?

The woman who called Mary Ann Perez' family and told them she was in trouble.

The woman who called police about Cynthia Anderson's disappearance but wouldn't stay on long enough to give any real information. I think she called twice but didn't call back after that.

The calls from Cindy James' mysterious tormentor. The one that did get released for listening is downright frightening.

The man who called in about Jamie Santos not breathing. He's never been identified.

That one bothers me the most. It's been 21 years and he still hasn't been identified nor has anyone ever been charged with anything.

6 1/2 years of phone calls. But technology in the 80's could only trace the calls back from districts in Vancouver and never an exact location in Vancouver.

Also, Chief Robert Hamerick's wife got a threatening phone call telling her husband to get out of town or else he was going to get hurt bad. Sure enough, he ended up dead within a few months.

The segment about the Rock Creek Gang. What a bunch of lowlifes that was. Murdered him just because he stood up to them and their bullying.

Did the segment ever mention what happened to the gang or what happened in town after Hamerick was killed? I can't remember.

I hope those scumbags were stopped eventually and that town ultimately found peace even if they were never able to prove they killed Chief Hamrick. The segment never really said that I can remember though.

How is it possible that no one has mentioned the evil baby phone calls of L'Enfant?

MegtheEgg86 did in her post on here. That kid's voice over the phone scared me as a kid. Still does. What became of the guy they were harassing?

The 1979 phone call that claimed that Amy Billig was at a truck stop near Reno, Nevada.

The caller who said that Leonard Dirickson was at a bar in Amarillo.

The antagonistic (or so UM leads us to assume) call that Ron Gillispie received the night of his death.

The interesting tip that came in after Constable Scott Rossiter was killed during an altercation with David O'Neil; it lead them to a shallow grave, where O'Neil was found murdered.

In the Jay Cook & Tanya Van Cuylenborg case, mysterious phone calls weren't involved, but some nutter sent horrible letters/greeting cards to the parents of the murdered kids.

In Gary Grant Jr.'s murder, written messages were left on a cop car, a sidewalk, and maybe a building.

In Holly Krewson's case, someone called her mother, claiming to be Holly and saying she was in a hospital in Ohio. It was later determined that Holly was already dead at the time the calls were made so it was definitely a cruel hoax.

In the Circleville Letters case, someone actually sent a threatening letter to the people at UM.... the infamous "You El Sickos will pay!" warning. lol

The segment never made any mention of whether the town was ever cleaned up of this gang after Hamrick's death. But those thugs getting away with murder like they did, I'm sure they probably thought they were invincible at that point. I really hate to think they went on to continue to terrorize the community for years and years.

I'll do some investigating online and see if there is any information.

Even though it turned out to be a cruel hoax, the call into the loser DJ's on the segment "Confess Your Crime" was pretty creepy.

So she did. I guess those commercials in the 1980s were right. Reading IS fundamental. Doh!
