When you tape a show, does the Neilson ratings count that?

I hate to say this, but unless you are one of the Nielsen families what you watch or tape has little to do with the ratings. They only track the homes with the Nielsen boxes and then make estimates from those numbers.. so when people say they are going to boycott a show, it really wouldn't have any effect unless they were Nielsen homes. Now if you boycott a product in a commercial that is shown on a tv show, that would have some effect as sponsors will occasionally pull out of advertising for certain tv series (remember Ellen?).

as i understand it, it is random. They randomly choose people to be Nielson familes. Basically the odds of becoming one are next to nil. Also Nielson familes are not supposed to tell anyone that they are a Nielson family.

Yeah, it's totally random. I got to keep a Nielson diary one month quite a few years ago. This was before they rolled out the "People Meters", which are settop boxes that keep automatically keep track of what shows you watch, in my area.

I'm part of the Neilson family, we got a special box that counts as what shows we watch.
