Default No Jerry Lewis Telethon This Year???

I know the MDA kicked him to the curb, but does that mean there will be no Muscular Dystrophy Telethon at all and no replacement for him as host??

Does anyone know why they kicked him to the curb? Was he caught with his hands in the cookie jar again? Or was it just his age this time?

Yeah, they had the MDA telethon but it was called the "MDA Show of Strength" and it was only 3 hours long instead of most of the Labor Day weekend like they used to have it.

I don't see how that shows strength when you are greatly downsized and your spokesman you had for 30 years is no longer involved.

Jerry Lewis has been in poor health for the last couple of years, and at 86, he's quite old. I'm not so sure a replacement host would help. There are so many other charities these days, that it's kind of hard to keep people interested in a three-day event. Jerry Lewis and surpassing the prior year's $ total was the real tie-in. Some things just end. It had a great run.

Stations don't want to take away any time from their precious little INFOMERCIALS.

True, Lewis is getting up in age. And the only one that could fill-in for Jerry Lewis would probably be his son Garry, but he's a musician.

Nothing against MDA but there are a lot of other debilitating diseases out there too.

I once heard a radio host say how he heard the MDA people say they were about to find a cure and it was just few short years away back in the 70s!

So in almost 40 years there's still no cure or treatment. It has to discourage some donors that year after year they don't see any progress.

Maybe it is one of those shows that has run its course. Has the Miss America pageant been shown yet? Years ago that was must see event. With so many stations, a lot get lost in the shuffle. I read in the news the year Lee Merriweather Miss America 1955 won was the first episode to be televised. I couldn't name the last ten for that show has lost its luster.

From the article it seems he wasn't treated fairly. It is sad so much disagreement in the world. It was a 50/50 thought for me. Here's a man age 80+ who would like to continue and then there are 20 and 30 age people who think, when am I going to get my shot at work. It is sad to be put out to pasture but on the other hand, how long do we really want to work a long schedule. Have a younger host and Jerry be on the side. Dick Clarks last few years on the New Years Eve shows were nice.

LOL...so true.

Part of the problem is there's a Miss USA and a Miss America pageant! I think one of them was buried on the Cooking channel or something!
