My sister and I have had this argument going for years. Johnny Depp and River Phoenix were good friends and I believe they were even in a band together. I believe that River would have been as big, if not, a bigger star than Depp if he were alive today but my sister believes he would not have been. She thinks he would have either dropped out of movies or ended up on TV. River was a wonderful actor like Depp. He was a natural and took his acting very seriously. But, my sister has her belief.

i think he would have been a much bigger star than Depp.
-i've never been really impressed with JD's acting, but then I first saw him on 21 Jumpstreet, and he now seems to just do whatever crappy parts Tim Burton asks him to do. - look at how big of a star Joaquin Phoenix is, and his brother was probably already a better actor even when he was young. If he hadn't have gotten into drugs, I think he would have gotten even more into acting. |

I love Johnny Depp! He's quirky and versatile! River Phoenix could have never played characters like Don Juan De Marco , Jack Sparrow or Buster Keaton-like Sam in Benny and Joon. And he has the looks!
PS. He has a fear of clowns like me!

Although Johnny Depp is a wonderful actor and can take on such roles so well, I have to disagree with you. I believe River Pheonix could have done the same. Look at his performance as the young Indiana Jones in "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" He was perfect. Of course were never going to know the answer to that question since River died at a young age and never got a chance to take on such roles as Johnny was given. But if you asked Johnny Depp, he would have probably agreed. Even Johnny knew that River was an actor to be taken seriously.
