Name Brand Vs. Generic Brand - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

What do you prefer to buy, name brand or the generic brand? To me, I try to shop around. A couple days ago, I bought a roll of paper towels from Wegmans and they IMO were thicker than Bounty. As far as trash bags go, I will only buy Hefty because I have tried the generic brand before and trash went all over the floor! Dawn dishsoap is really good. I know it costs a couple dollars more, but it is really durable. As far as clothing goes, I am still thinking about this one. I bought some Nike socks recently and they are allready starting to wear thin. The price I paid for them, they should last a lot longer. My aunt has a desk from my late great grandmother and it is still in great condition. My great grandma died in 1989. So I think the desk was made probably back in the 40s or 50s. My dad bought a microwave from WalMart back in 1998 and we used it ALOT of the years- it is still working great (I think its a Sun Beam). Also, some time back (I was really surprised by this), I bought a pair of shoes from Family Dollar. They were so confortable and they lasted a long time. So the thing is some brand name stuff is better/worse than generic brands. You have to shop around.

Some things like paper towels or milk, I'll get the generic brand. But things like margerine...I'll go for the name brand, like Imperial Margerine...it tastes like butter but it doesn't have a high price tag.

Mostly name brand. Sure they are more expensive, but the quality is better.

Generic on almost anything but clothes. My clothes have to have labels. Food products however, Great Value brand tastes the same and cheaper. I dont see it as being cheap I see it as not spending outrageous amounts on groceries that we're going to have to go out and buy again next week, I'd rather put our money into the items where brand really does matter.
