I don't!I want it SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD!I mean with everyone posting that they might get ODAAT for a Fandemonium I started crying! Why can't they replace one of the C-SPAN channels for it?I mean who needs C-SPAN?I'm finna go over to my cable company's site to check it out.You never know! Also please if you can PLEASE write TVLand and tell them to put their channel in a basic cable thing! And do the same thing if you have Nick GAS!
I mean they have Technology channel,LMN,about a bazillion Discovery Channels a trillion sports channel including one that shows football games from the 70s and 80s,they have the Sci-Fi channel and the only good thing about that is wonder woman and the movies they show(mostly elvira),they even have BBC America which don't really show ANY good britcoms. If they have all those boring channels why don't they have those two exciting channels? And don't forget Boomerang! for all those great 70s cartoons! My cable company needs to get a life! |

I remember asking my local cable company about TV Land when I saw a commercial for it one day. They told me they weren't planning on airing it(however, now they do). At the time our cable company had no competition other than the big dish systems, so we said fine...and we bought one. It is so cool. I have seen Dan Rather pick his nose, and I have heard sooooooo many things that were never meant for anyone to hear when the stations break for commercials. One time, I watched Maria Shriver have a tissy-fit over how her scarf was hanging on her shoulder. She was down-right hostle toward the people who were trying to adjust it. Then just before she went "on-air" she plastered this smile on her face. Oh how I love my big dish! You really get to see peoples true colors...and sometimes it really is surprising.

Twinkle, that is way too funny. Don't these celebs realize that they're people can still see them? I'd love to see the Maria Shriver hissy-fit.

TV Guy...I suspected Maria could be a handful, and she proved me right! They have to know that they can be heard, but I guess they must forget. One time I was watching a figure skating competition, and when it went to break, the commentators were talking about how fat a certain skater was. And I mean they were REALLY being mean. Anyway, Dick Button reminded them that their conversation was being listened to by all the satellite dish owners around the country, and they shut up. Kind of ironic that Dick had to shut them up, since he never shuts up himself!
One time I was watching a skating event that was on the Canadian Channel(CBC) and during a commerical break they were talking about Tonya Harding and just yukking it up. Of course, Tonya deserves everything she got and more IMO. On the other hand, I have met Nancy Kerrigan on several occasions(socially), and she is a very nasty person. IMO, of course. One time this reporter from somewhere back East was upset about something and he used the "F" word about 100 times in a 2 minute span. Then right before he went on the air, he slapped on a stupid smile and gave his little report. Most times the commercial breaks are far more exciting than the programming. |

twinkle - THANK YOU!!! Your posts brought back so many wonderful memories... I had a dish from ab. 1985-93... It was a big 6 foot monster, but I absolutely LOVED when the camera stayed on the announcers or newscasters during the commercial breaks!
I've seen stars (can't remember any names off hand) do promos for their syndicated shows. And when they do this, sometimes they have to do dozens of takes so that they can name all of the stations that carry their show. (for those of you out there who've never seen this on a dish, this explains why, for example, a big star will mention the call letters of your local station that is currently carrying their show...you might see, for example, Lisa Kudrow saying, "stay tuned to WSKE, Channel 8, your local "Friends" station", or something like that. And they'll do that for dozens of stations at a time, so that the local stations can record and air the promo to make it look like the star of the show actually knows that their station exists). I used to like seeing how annoyed (or bored) the celebs get between takes. And, I remember hearing a lot of sports announcers make rather rude comments when the cameras will focus on a beautiful woman in the crowd during a commercial, or on a cheerleader or something. They think they're off the air, but dish owners can still hear them. It's hilarious! I left my dish behind when I moved, but I miss moments like that :-) |

TVLanFan...LOL, I can only imagine what they were saying about the cheerleaders!
Yes, I love my big dish also. Ours is a 10 foot one, and we have had it for years. It has been acting up a little bit lately, and I hate to see that happen because I know we will go to a smaller one when the big one dies. One thing that I love is the feeds. Whatever is going on in the world, as you know, big dish owners find out tons more information than the regular dish owners. I remember watching CNN's feed when JFK Jr's plane crashed. It is facinating to hear everything the reporters say when they are not taping. And it was on 24/7. I can usually find almost anything. I have always managed to find the Olympic games somewhere on a satellite. It isn't always in English, but I can find it. CBC(the Canidian channel) should be patted on the back for their coverage of sports. Unlike our commentators, they don't seem to like to hear themselves blather on and on. I like how they let the viewer enjoy what is happening. I'll bet you do miss your dish. I know I am going to when ours finally bites the dust. |
