You know Joyce Dewitt missed 1 episode and Suzanne missed several due to her contract dispute but what if Ritter had a disagreement and decided to sit out one episode? Can you see yourself watching a entire Three's Company episode without Jack Tripper?-lol
I can see myself just waiting for Jack to come in the door any second for 30 mins |

No. You absolutely had to have Jack. Actually, the Ropers pilot airs as a Three's Company episode in syndication and there's no Jack or anyone else from TC in it. It really doesn't have any TC connections at all except for a couple of short scenes in the Ropers old apartment. It was the last time it was seen painted beige with red/orange carpet before it was painted blue with dark blue carpet for Furley.

Yeah Jack was basically the glue that held the show together.

It's strange. Most sitcoms these days are clearly ensemble shows, where no performer really dominates over the others. Or you get shows like "Seinfeld" where the "star" really isn't the funny one and lets the supporting cast have the glory. "The Bob Newhart Show" and "Mary Tyler Moore" are old examples of this. However with "Three's Company" it's clear the guy who got top billing was the funniest and most talented person on the stage. Surprisingly, this doesn't happen that often on sitcoms. This show was always about John. Therefore, pay him more. No one else was going to have a job on the show without him. |
