Default The Toby character

Why did he always have the look like he only got 2 hours sleep and couldn't stay awake during the day?

LOL

I don't know if he was high or just tired but the man did not look normal

I have mentioned that he looks high to me. Red, droopy eyes. Very chill and relaxed. Sort of lazy and doesn't give a ****. Only does what is required of him. As the character stated years earlier in the show, that he took the HR job because that was what was offered to him.

I hate that too, but I like it when he tells Michael off.

Was it ever mentioned why Michael hated him so much? I haven't seen every episode of this show but my basic feel was that he probably saw Toby as "bland" but was jealous because even "bland" Toby had managed to get married and have a child - something that was a dream of Michael's even when he was a kid, and something that he hadn't managed to do even though he was in his 40s.

The hate Michael has for Toby is one of my favorite aspects of The Office- any encounter Michael has with Toby is a laugh riot! My favorite is when Toby is trying to have a heart-to-heart session with Michael over a lunch break by telling him the story of his parents' split, and Michael pushed Toby's lunch tray off the table. I split my sides laughing so hard!

No wonder he's divorced. I wouldn't stay married to him for one day.

That's what I've always understood the hatred as. Toby gets in the way of Michael's fun

Exactly, Michael calls Scranton the "fun cool branch" and Toby is standing in his way, always being the buzz kill....the world's most boring man!!

I liked Toby so much more than Michael. I guess Toby is there to spotlight just what a jerk Michael can be even to someone who means well and is there for the good of the employees. Michael wants to be everything to everyone in the office and having Toby in a position to be there to help is like a threat to Michael.
