In either episode # 86 ( "Going Steady" ) or # 87 ( "Mother Bub" ), Chip broke down over the loss of his mother . Can anybody verify which episode this was ? A second season episode has Chip looking at a 8 x 10 photo of his mother, and this is an in -- joke, as the photo is clearly a publicity shot of Fred MacMurray's wife June Haver .
In one of the very last black and white episodes, Steve explains to Mike that a questionaire he filled out on behalf of Mike's mom represented the couple after twelve years of marriage, a marriage full of discussion, compromises and even fights . Steve then reads a letter from the first Mrs . Douglas calling off their wedding saying they had nothing in common and that their views were so far apart, the marriage could never succeed . The letter is very specific in telling the differing views that each parent had . There's a mention in one of the color episodes that Chip was so young when she died that he doesn't remember her at all . To my memory, Robbie told Katie "Mike remembers her most of all, I remember her a little bit, and Chip doesn't remember her at all !" . I half -- remember an episode where Robbie's marriage to Katie his a rough spot, so Steve told him a story abut a similar situation from his first marriage, and it had to do with him finding out that his first wife was pregnant with Robbie . Can anybody identify any of these episodes I mentioned ? |

It was the "Mother Bub" where Chip breaks down. The questionnaire episode is "Steve and the Computer" from Season 5. Robbie telling Katie about their mother was when Steve was about to marry Barbara in Season 10 and the memory of Steve telling Robbie about their mother was taken from the first California episode (Season 8).
