Maybe its a generation thing but when Charlotte Rae (Mrs. Garrett) said that the girls were straight, I understood what she meant. She clearly meant that none of them is into crime, alcohol, or strung out on drugs.

Sexual orientation did not enter my mind when she said that.

Mine either. I have always loved Charlotte Rae. She has to be one of the most honest and impartial people on the planet. She never let her popularity as Edna Garrett inflate her ego.

It entered my mind. LOLOL. But after two seconds, I realized what she was talking about. I was laughing my butt off.

"And they grew up straight...(audience claps) ha ha ha...STRAAAAIGHT!" I'm still laughing. I can't people got upset over that. Mainly people on message boards. That term has so more than one meaning and I understood what she was saying.

It is definitely a generational thing. If someone in their 20's had made the same comment, I probably would have taken it as meaning gay, but since Charlotte is older, I understood that she was using an older expression. Really though, when you watch the interview and take into account the context of her comment, it should be pretty clear that she wasn't talking about sexual orientation.

Didn't Geri struggle with substance abuse? Or maybe she doesn't consider her as one of "her girls".... I wonder how she felt about that comment?
