yes folks it's true, the classic 1950's tv tear jerker is now a musical, and if you don't believe me click here for the scoop:
http://www.queenforadaythemusical.com also a well-knowned actor and gamesmen takes the role of TV host Jack Bailey in a "Hairspray-esque" of the Ike-era weeper. Could broadway beckon? Also here's a hint: if you don't know this actor's name then your weary "Big Wheels" of a brain might as well maybe suffering from "Growing Pains"! |

"QUEEN FOR A DAY" was the "reality game show" of its day. It lasted about 20 years (1945-'65) on radio- and then, TV. Jack Bailey was the emcee, and the idea was that, every day, four women were selected out of the audience [after filling out "wish cards" beforehand, stating what it was they wanted to win, and why], and told the most "tear-jerking" hard-luck stories in an effort to become "Queen For A Day" [typical story: "I want to win a new washer because I need one after my husband beat me up, and just about kicked the washer to pieces, and now I don't have one to wash my two little babies' clothes with, and we're going to be kicked out of our house soon..."]. At the end of the show, the studio audience, via "applause meter", picked the woman they felt deserved to be "Queen"...and she received a "jackpot" of prizes. The other three received "consolation prizes"...

thank you tv knowledge fan for that wonderful enligtment of your "tv knowledge" (no pun intended) on QFAD.
also if you don't mind i like to contribute more knowledge for QFAD that Jack Bailey (1945-1964) was not the only emcee for the show, their were other two emcees for the show as well in the forms of Ken Murray (1945) and Dick Curtis (1969-1970). also their was a Spanish-language revival of the show under the title "Reina Por Un Dia" hosted by Thomas Ramos which it aired on Unvision Puerto Rico in the winter of 2011. and the format is currently owned by television excutive Michael Wortsman. |
