Default TV Guide explains why Matt Lauer is worth 21.5 million dollars

TV Guide explains that if Matt Lauer had left the today show, the ratings would decline 20 to 30 percent which tends to happen when a key personality leaves the show. And a NBC insider stated that if Lauer left the network would have lost $125 million in revenue in one year which would have made the Today show sink like the titantic

Do you agree?-lol

Make sense to me. I agree. Whether peoples like Matt or not if he had left The TODAY Show this Year and had not signed a Contract ratings would have went down a lot like the Titanic, GMA would have Widen the Gap Fast and TODAY Show would have lost Money. When Matt Lauer joined Katie couric in 1997 and replaced Bryant Gumble Ratings shot up 10-20 Percent, Although part of that was just because the Matt-Katie Team was very likeable and the chemistry was unbearable not even Joan and Charlie could top those two. But a lot of it was that Matt was just likeable and not a A-Hole like Gumble. When Katie left in 2006 critics aid that Ratings would go down but instead Katie left and the Ratings did not go down at all. Pretty much proving that Matt was the reasons Viewers were watching (mostly in those later Katie Years) When Matt was off and Katie was there with Sub-Host Ratings were lower then when Katie was Gone and Matt was not. The problem was Ann was not a good Fit and had no Chemistry with Matt.

If Matt had Left there is no way Ann would Could have carried the show. I like Ann but she is more of a Hard news person not a Morning show Personality like Matt, Jane Pauley, Katie Couric, Meredith, Bryant, Robin Robert, Charlie Gibson etc.

Heck I don't even think George Stephanopoulos is a Good fit on GMA, he is too serious and too stiff and if Robin and not enough personality left the show Tomorrow Ratings would tank. They need to replace George.

Okay Sorry that I kind of got off topic a bet there, but yes Matt has been the key to the show for the last Five Years. If he had left and Not Ann Ratings would have went down and they would have lost money. Except Ann would not have been fired but Matt Replacement would have gotten the blame(Ann would have still gotten the some of the blame as she would have been the most senior member). Although I do think Willie and Lester would have been god replacement but they would not have been able to keep the show on top.I tihnk

TODAY Show make 600-630 Million in Revenues every year, They have been on top for 16 years and Matt has been there for all of those 16 ears. Matt deserve every penny he can get! It's a business and the more money Peoples watch, they make more money, his salary goes because he is the main reason they are making none. Think of like sports, The Better the team is doing, the more money they make, the bigger QB salary Gets. Katie Couric Salary went up when Bryant Gumble left in 1997, it doubled in 1998 and 2002 as TODAY show continued it winning streak and bought in more money for NBC. Yeah he lost see of that what he had in 1997 but he is still a Good Interviewer and funny

Peoples make a big thing about Matt salary... why am I not hearing anything about Bill O'Reilly making 16 Million?
