Question Cat litter: Clumping or Non?

I've been a cat owner for 22 years now, and I've always used the non-clumping litter. I read somewhere that clumping is better, so I'm using that now, and I do like it better. It's more work because there's more to take out of the litter box, but what a difference in the smell, or I should say, no smell. What really stinks is the cat's urine, and with the clumping, the urine is removed daily and doesn't remain in the litter. Nice topic, lol.

Just wondering what the cat lovers think?

Non-clumping litter stinks litter-ally!

With the non-clumping, the litter is much smellier and can even sometimes seem like your lungs are filling up with amonia or something. It's just nasty.

The clumpng litter is much better. The urine forms into a tidy clump and it's much easier to manage and scoop out.

Then there is also this stuff called natural pine and when the litter box is dirty, the pine pellets just turn into something that's like saw dust.

In my opinion, clumping litter is the way to go.

Off topic.....I like your avatar. That liar should be ashamed of himself!

The kind I have for Romeo is the clumping kind.
I know when I had both Cuddles and Romeo would would bury the evidence and the other wouldn't.

I like the clumping kind better, because it seems to be easier to clean. I also prefer the kind that somehow makes the odor less noticeable. Since we had to get rid of our cats after the eviction, I can't remember what brand we used, but it was good. More expensive, but worth it.

I've always used clumping, but decided to try non-clumping as a neighbor had some that she didn't need anymore. I literally tried it for one day and threw it out. Not only was I grossed out by the smell and the idea of urine just sitting in the litter box, my cat must have been grossed out as well, because she decided to use the bathroom elsewhere. LOL.

Definitely clumping litter! I used to use the non clumping kind when I had my other cat because it's cheaper but when I got the two cats I got now I switched over to clumping. I have to tell you its so much better. It costs more but it's definitely worth it. You save money too because you aren't throwing so much away each time you change the box. Clumping litter is a Godsend! It even smells better and masks the urine odor better. That is what smells the worst is the urine odor. People have even noticed that when they come in my house doesn't stink especially having two cats! That is awesome to hear.

I don't like the non clumping kind, it leaves a major mess to clean in the litter box when it's ready to be changed. WIth clumping the litter looks fresh and clean

Has anyone tried the new "lightweight" cat litter? If so, do you think it works as well as the regular? I buy the heavy one.

I'm tempted Jenny, but somehow I feel that it won't be as effective.

That's what keeps me from getting it as well. Also, the "lightweight" box is almost the same price as the heavyweight and you get a lot less litter.

The lightweight works just as well as the "normal weight" version. Trust me, with 4 cats, the kitty litter has to function in my house. ;-)

Clumping. Thanks for reminding me, I have to change my cat's litter tonight, or she will get *creative*!
