Oh No

Oh, brother, please no!! Hasn't Hollywood learned ANYTHING from adapting TV shows into movies? They do not work!!!!

Oh No

They were talking about this on one of the local radio stations this morning and they said "here's another 80's show being regurgitated and shoved down your throat"!

Default "Alf" to Become A Mvie!

This is such a bad idea!

Although I wouldn't mind a TV movie with the original cast -- catching up with Alf and the Tanner family today.
That (I think) would find a lot of viewers!

I think this is a great idea and, would love to go see Alf on the big screen. That being said I hope it's done with respect to the sitcom.

This must, in some way, help explain why the Hub recently acquired ALF and why it has been the only sitcom to air the past 2 weeks during the "summer nights" thing. Maybe it's to get exposure to ALF so that maybe more kids and families will become intrigued to see the movie perhaps.

an AFL movie would be awesome, if u don't feel that way, why are u here? Not all films based off sitcoms are bed, i.e. Brady Bunch. It just has to be done right and I understand Paul Fusco is front and center on this so cross ur fingers and keep watching!!

After seeing some episodes on The Hub recently I had forgotten how much I liked this show as a kid. Now reading about it online I find out a movie is in the works and you know what...I think it could actually work in a respectable manner. With the original creator at the helm and a ton of different directions they could take, it could wind up being pretty good. Even my trivial complaining about how they are naming all these reboots/remakes/etc. is moot because simply "Alf" would work well given the fact there are no previous films.

Overall, I feel this is one of the select few projects that rightfully deserves a reboot. The creative side of the character hasn't been played out and Hollywood is severely lacking in quality family entertainment. As long as they don't turn it into a CGI bonanza crapfest I can see it being successful both creatively and financially.

The "Project: ALF" TV-movie did help wrap up things pretty well (at least the cliffhanger storyline the series left off at.) I'm not sure where an "ALF" movie would go and normally I would be wary of such things, but at least with this I know that Paul Fusco is involved and I'm sure he'll make sure his creation is properly represented. It would be awesome to see the Tanners back in it too, but I don't know if the storyline will even involve them. Most TV shows Hollywood has made into movies have been quite awful but they are a few that have been good- namely, the Star Trek movies. (Mainly because they used the same casts from the TV shows and stayed true to the series.) My problem with so many other TV show-based movies (like The Brady Bunch movies, the Charlie's Angels movies, the Starsky & Hutch movie, the Dark Shadows movie, etc.) is that they were basically parodies of the series and not really trying to stay true to the shows at all. And a lot of them did "Family Guy" style riffs on them, adding inappropriate sexual material and foul language that would never have been seen on the original shows they were based on.
One other movie based on a TV show that is almost pretty good is "The A-Team"- except that there was a barrage of foul language that would never have been heard on the show (yes- the show definitely had some bad language at times, though it mainly would've been heard from the bad guys- not that that makes it any better...but there were definitely some words in the movie that never would have been heard on the show from anyone)- and there was also a huge level of violence that would never have been seen on the show either- as well as some sexual scenes that would not have been there either.
They didn't use the original cast unfortunately- however, in this case, it's certainly understandable as George Peppard unfortunately died in 1994. And I would not have wanted to see Dirk Benedict, Dwight Schultz and Mr. T acting alongside a replacement for him. But the actors playing those roles actually did a pretty good job of recreating their characters- they looked the part and acted the part, for the most part. The original theme song was used in the movie and there are some moments that are very much in the style and spirit of The A-Team that are quite enjoyable. So it's kind of a mixed bag for me on that one.
But anyway- I do hold out hope that an "ALF" movie would be done right and I'm excited and interested to see it.

I think that it can be done. I just wondered what happened with the Tanners in the aftermath, though.

Alf could end up being a good movie if the plot is not crappy, the producers of this movie will have put lots and lots of money into this film also hire good actors and actresses, we dont want a good plot story and bad acting.

someone said the brady bunch movie was good that one was good because it wasnt like a straight remake of the show it was more like satire making fun of like show plus it was set in current times and like making fun of how they still live like there in the 70s and stuff so alf movie could work if done right if its just like a straight copy of the tv show made into a movie it might not work

Here's a great interview with Paul Fusco about the "ALF" movie.
