Default Was Florida a true hypocrite

Remember the episode in season 1 when the Evans family was being evicted and Florida did not want James to gamble playing pool to get up the money for the rent, however, after James illegally hustled up the money, he also bought Florida a coat, Thelma a shirt, Michael Shoes and JJ pajamas with the money. I laughed so hard at Florida when she yelled, "James this is the coat that I always wanted that was funny.

So my question is: Was Florida the Christian woman; a true hypocrite after she complained about James getting money immorally when the family needed help, at the same time, it was okay for Florida to accept the immoral illegal hustle money to pay for things. Don't forget that Florida thanked the lord for James after he immorally hustled up the rent money by gambling that she was against

I don't think there was anything wrong with her accepting money from James winning a game of pool. Now if he was shooting DICE then YES

So how was she a hypocrite? When it comes down to being homeless or hustling a pool game, no one would choose being homeless

I know, J.J ******** a$$ was the one who couldn't keep his source of income on the down low and had to start acting like a black santa clause and buying all these expensive gifts for no reason. LOL

But she did accept the money from Cousin Raymond and just prepared herself to give it back because she knew he would end up needing it again

I don't think that she would have spent the money that Ray gave her. She would have most likely put it away in her dresser so that when he asked for it back she would have it for him.

Christians live in the REAL world too. Money is a constant necessity and they have bills that have to be paid to maintain their home and living standard as does everyone else. Why do you think that churches all over the country hold "bingo night"? Because the ends justifies the means. So, no Florida was NOT a hypocrite; nor is anyone else or any church that accepts money that is freely given through no illicit actions of their own.

I am Christian too and take it seriously. With Florida, I think she was a hypocrite because she opposed gambling saying things like it was the devil's money but then gambles herself buying lottery tickets. LOL. With James making that triple shot in the 1st or 3rd episode, I can understand her taking that money although he gambled to get it. She didn't do it and James did what he had to do in his mind to provide for his own. In all honesty, I really don't care all. I was happy that she won the lottery. I love me some Flo but she did have double standards at times but then again, I'm sure Esther Rolle had BIG issues with the writing of Florida Evans and see why she pushed for to be consulted for script approval during the last season of the show.

Yes but I still think Florida in the beginning of the series would have opposed gambling in any shape or form. You do bring up a good point, however.

I always felt that she didn't like "dirty" money, money that came from pimps, dealers and money runners. Now playing the lotto which is legal would be a whole different thing.

However playing the lotto is still gambling; and according to Florida the "christian woman", gambliing was NOT the christian thing to do ...
