Music Game Shows Have Been Scarce - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Has anyone noticed that in the last few years there hasn't been a music themed game show since Don't Forget the Lyrics? The genre had several entries in the 60s and 70s with shows like What's This Song, later remade as Win With the Stars, Face the Music and the best known show in this category Name That Tune.

My take is that the producers don't want to pay high licensing and clearance fees to play popular songs on TV. It's also why sitcoms such as Happy Days and WKRP in Cincinnati have had licensing issues with DVDs.

you know what i heard from Buzzerblog one time that Fremantle Media has acquired the rights to Name That Tune a few months back.
