"American Idol" grad Paul McDonald is heading to NBC.

The 27-year-old singer-songwriter, who made it to the top eight on the Fox series in season 10, has been cast in returning drama "Parenthood" for a guest spot, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.



McDonald will play a musician who puts up shop in Crosby (Dax Shepard) and Adam's (Peter Krause) recording studio, The Luncheonette, as TVLine first reported.

He catches the eye of the Luncheonette's new hire, Amber (Mae Whitman).

Paul McDonald, the folk-rock finalist from "American Idol's" 10th season, will showcase a hidden talent -- acting -- as well as a new song when he makes his small-screen debut on the NBC series "Parenthood" Tuesday night.

McDonald, who told Yahoo Music News he will spend the next two months in Nashville recording tracks for his debut, post-"Idol" album, will perform a new song, the piano-based ballad, 'Counting Stars', on the show.

On Tuesday's new episode of "Parenthood", McDonald portrays a musician who uses Crosby and Adam’s recording space, The Luncheonette. His character will reportedly catch the eye of the studio’s new assistant, Amber (Mae Whitman).
