We installed MagicJack on our computer and it worked great until a few weeks ago. It's really weird! We can get incoming calls but we can't call out! People can call us but we can't call them. When we dial a number there is complete silence . No ringing sound. People have told us that their phone rings when we call but there is no one on our end! We cannot hear anybody on the other side. We got a hold of the magic Jack people and tried everything that they suggested buy nothing works! We are wondering if maybe there is something on my computer which might be blocking it? I have checked my virus programs and firewalls but everything is enabled for MagicJack. I was wondering if maybe you might know why we can receive calls but not call out? It's really frustrating! Thanks in advance!

was there anything you added or installed around the time this started acting up, or could it have happened around the time you did your last Windows Update? (2nd Tuesday of the month)
best advice I can give you is to unplug it, completely uninstall it, I would even go so far as to go into the device manager and uninstall the USB driver, delete all of your temp files, reboot and start from scratch. it would be worth disabling your antivirus temporarily, and make sure you plug the USB cable directly into the computer and not into a hub. |

...also might want to just try a different phone and cord
- and go to the Magic Jack website and log in and make sure that you are set-up for outgoing calls |

What is a dongle? Do you mean the part that plugs into the USB port? This is what it looks like. (The blue thing)Ok I know what a dongle is (good old Google!) But I really don't think that's the problem because we also purchased Magicjack Plus thinking that a new one would work. Well, it didn't. It performed exactly the same as our original one. So we returned it and are using our original one. So that tells me that our dongle is not the problem. We went over and over all of the problem with customer service and they couldn't figure it out either. |

Ok, I found the problem but don't know what to do. Hope you can help. Magicjack works fine if I turn off my Avast anti-virus. But Avast is the only anti virus program that I have on my computer. I can't leave it off! I have magicjack enabled on my exclusions list. What do I do now?
Ok, Here's the deal........... I disable Avast, make the call, the other party answers, then I enable avast after the person I call answers the phone. I can continue my call . Is there a way around this somewhere on Avast? But it does work when I do that. I am just wondering why I have to do all of this stuff to make a call. By the way I have cable high speed internet and I have Windows 7. You have been more help than the customer service people and I thank you!

Well, nothing suggested works. I really would like to know if you could direct me to another free anti-virus program? As I said, I really like Avast and I can live with the little inconvenience it causes on MagicJack. Thanks again!

Roby I uninstalled Avast and installed Microsoft Security Essentials and magicjack is working fine! Is this program as good as Avast? Seeing that it's microsoft I am assuming it is. Yes, after uninstalling behavior shield it still didn't work. Who knows?
Anyway thank you so much for your help! I love you!
