It's the betrayal that has broken untold millions of Twihearts: Kristen Stewart, 22, has issued a heartwrenching admission of infidelity today to People.com, after photos surfaced of the Twilight star kissing her Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders.

"I'm deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I've caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected. This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I'm so sorry."

Sanders, 41, who has two kids with his wife, model and actress Liberty Ross, released a statement to THR, saying: "I am utterly distraught about the pain I have caused my family. My beautiful wife and heavenly children are all I have in this world. I love them with all my heart. I am praying that we can get through this together."

1. Caught Kissing on Camera (Tuesday, July 17)

A paparazzo snaps photos of the Hunstman star and director making out in a parked vehicle in Los Angeles.





2. Cozying Up at the Teen Choice Awards (Sunday, July 22)

The pair walk the pink carpet at the Gibson Amphitheater, and are later snapped in an embrace. One photo features Sanders kissing Stewart's neck as she turns her head, smiling.





3. Liberty Ross Tweets "Wow" (Tuesday, July 24)

Sanders' model-actress wife tweets one word -- "wow" -- just hours before the news breaks. Her Twitter account is later disabled.





4. Drunk Snow White and Instagram Rumors (Tuesday, July 24)

A rumored second post from Ross, this time to Instagram, features an image of Walt Disney's Snow White crying and drinking from a bottle on which a bird is perched (inset).

Accompanied is the caption, "Not so pretty or so pure after all ....." Ross' privacy settings are reportedly changed shortly after it goes up.





5. Us Magazine Releases the Story (Tuesday, July 24)

The neck-kissing photo is splashed across the cover of the celebrity weekly, in a story titled "KRISTEN CHEATS ON ROB!" Inside are the shots of the two kissing inside the car.

Gossip blogs begin circulating the news that Stewart has cheated on Pattinson.





6. Twihards Revolt (Tuesday, July 24)

Stewart and Pattinson's passionate fanbase take to social media like Twitter and YouTube to decry what they consider a Photoshopped-enabled smear campaign against the actress.





7. Stewart Reads Mean Tweets on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" (Tuesday, July 24)

Poorly timed comedy: As part of the show's ongoing series "Celebrities Read Mean Tweets," Stewart reads, "I liked Kristen Stewart more when she was a boy," then adjusts her jeans.





8. People Publishes Stewart's Apology (Wednesday, July 25)

The story is verified -- and blows up -- after Stewart issues a "heart-wrenching public apology" to Pattinson on the magazine's website.

She calls the infidelity a "momentary indiscretion that jeopardized the most important thing in my life. ... I love him, I love him, I'm so sorry."





9. Sanders Issues a Mea Culpa (Wednesday, July 25)

Us Magazine publishes this statement from the director on their website:

Report: Robert Pattinson Moves Out of Kristen Stewart's Home

Robert Pattinson has moved out of the home he shares with Kristen Stewart, according to People.

On Wednesday, Stewart apologized for cheating on her Twilight co-star and boyfriend with her Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders, who is married with two children. The apology came after intimate pictures of Stewart and Sanders were released.

People reports that Pattinson, who the magazine describes as "heartbroken and angry," has left the Los Angeles home he shared with Stewart and remains out of contact with her.

Liberty Ross Files For Divorce from Rupert Sanders

Liberty Ross has filed for divorce from her cheating hubby Rupert Sanders ... TMZ has learned.

Ross just filed her paperwork in L.A. County Superior Court. She's asking for joint custody of their 2 children -- ages 5 and 7.

Ross, who is repped by disso-queen Laura Wasser, is also asking for spousal support, as well as attorney's fees.



Sanders, who is repped by Lance Spiegel, also filed his response to the divorce petition. He's also requesting joint custody. He is not asking for spousal support.

As for attorney's fees, he wants to share the costs with Liberty.



Sanders famously cheated on Ross ... with Kristen Stewart, whom he was directing in Snow White and the Huntsman.

As we first reported ... Ross and Sanders went to a shrink a number of times trying to work out their problems, but it was not meant to be.

Kristen Stewart has since reconciled with her boyfriend Robert Pattinson, whom she was dating at the time.
