In the episode.."The Magician". As soon as the episode starts after the opening credits, the woman sitting on the couch with Mr. Drummond is already laughing which looks like it may have been a line or two cut but the only proof would be if I had the NBC episode
But overall all the eps were full length and no other issues |

You have no proof there were anything there originally! Run-times for those two episodes are consistent with the other non two-part episodes. Yet it was the two-part episodes' run-times you were whining about before you even had the DVD.
You have no solid proof to say there are edits, so you can't call out like that. Because if it was like that originally, you just made a fool of yourself AGAIN. |

So Pav what you are saying is when a episode starts and two people are already engaged in conversation and one of them is laughing, that is not a obvious edit???? Obviously Mr. Drummond already said something for her to laugh. Come on Pav |

The 2 part episode was fine. And I;m not whining I just made a observation from actually watching the episode instead of scanning through it |

Ok I'm watching again. Opening Credits roll and then after they are over The lady sitting next to Mr. Drummond is laughing saying "oh stop" And Mr. Drummond says..."No, the fact is I adopted Willis and Arnold because they are great kids" So are you going to tell me that's not a EDIT???????? She obviously asked him why he decided to adopt Willis and arnold. So why can't you accept that this episode has a "OBVIOUS EDIT?" |

So should I say a "questionable edit"? |

That's your speculation. Runtimes are similar to other episodes. The episode could start out like that, you don't know that.

I watched it myself and it doesn't look edited to me. There were a lot of episodes of the series which started in the middle of a conversation like that. Now, on the other hand, if somebody can show me a version of the episode, even a syndication version, which has something else intact before that, I'd be inclined to think of it as an obvious edit...

Here's the version as aired on BET: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwZtxy3MP5c
Granted, that is a syndicated version, but considering that the rest of the episode is seemingly intact on DVD, it would be awfully peculiar for a syndicated version to be missing that line as well as a "mostly unedited" one. |

That was the only episode on the DVD that started like that which is why I felt it may have been a slight edit. No other episode on the DVD starts with a conversation already in progress. Ok the run time is 25:09 for the Magician and for Drummond's Fair Lady the run time is 25:09. So maybe it's not an edit but it looked like something was cut since we didn't know why the lady was laughing |

Ok well looks like I maybe wrong but it was just something that looked cut. I mean atleast you know why I thought it was edited because the lady was already laughing. |

I can't think of any specific examples on this set off top of my head as I would need to watch them all again to pay attention (it is something I never really think about), but it is pretty common on this series (and many sitcoms from the 70s and 80s) to start off an episode either in the middle of a conversation or more generally in the middle of anything. Use, for example, an episode where somebody visits a character on the series for some reason or another. We don't necessarily see them coming over or talking, but the episode may start with them walking out the door then the characters talking about why the character was there. It would be awfully weird for her to be there and just suddenly ask "Why did you adopt Arnold and Willis?" out of the blue, the response Mr. Drummond gives was a way to explain why she was there without going into a whole five minute scene where she would have to ring the doorbell, sit down, be offered coffee, then ask a series of questions leading to his answer. The way it is presented in the episode makes it very clear what she is doing and why she is there immediately, while anything which may have lead up to it is implied, for the viewer to recognize "oh, so this is what happened BEFORE these lines."
