Default Will and Jazz not friends since they were kids?

For some reason growing up watching this show, I had always assumed Jazz and Will were best friends since child hood. However, it seems I was wrong. In the second episode of season 1 "Bang the Drum Ashley", Will says he first meets Jazz at a club, where I guess he hears him play the drums. I thought I could have sworn though that in later seasons it's mentioned that Will and Jazz had been friends since they were kids. Can anyone back me up here, or am I just not remembering correctly?

I might be wrong, but wasn't Jazz in that shot in the intro, where Will gets into a fight on a basketball field? That happened in Philadelphia, but Will supposedly didn't know Jazz until he moved to Los Angeles.

That was definitely him in the into.
I guess I never thought about it. But then if they were friends since childhood, wouldn't Jazz have had to move from Philly to Bel-Air with Will?!

I guess they hoped that no one would ever notice that inconsistency.

It wouldn't be the first time something like this has happened on sitcoms. This reminds me of the time three middle school kids and their principal all moved from Indianapolis to the same new school in Palisades, California.
[i.e. "Good Morning, Miss Bliss" was set in Indiana. When the show moved from the Disney Channel to NBC, it was revamped and renamed "Saved By the Bell". Zack, Lisa, Screech and Mr. Belding had all been together at JFK Jr. High School in Indiana and then suddenly they were all together again at Bayport High School in California!]

And on "Boy meets world", that teacher (I've forgotten his name) just had to follow Cory & co from High School to College!

That would be Mr. Feeny and yeah- perfect example. He actually followed Cory from middle school to high school to college- and he was the Matthews' next door neighbor!
