the ratings went down every year. After being a top 10 show during season 1, the show finished below the top 20 after seasons 2 and 3 and that was with AMOS. So it looks like the show was losing fans anyway and when he left that caused a bigger drop.

So I guess the mystery question is "do you think the show last as long as the Jeffersons if there was never any dispute between Amos and Lear?

The show ratings were declining before Amos was gone

You can also say that the Jeffersons ratings were dropping pretty good until it was moved to Sundays in 1979. That saved them. It's hard to say what would have happened if Amos would have stayed. I think the show lost focus after he left.

After the 3rd season the rating declined each year. I think that the reason that the 3rd season went down is because they changed the time slot. Just my guess

I was told by some who was around at the time that they couldn't find the show because CBS was constantly moving it

And lots of people didn't have TV guides so they couldn't track what was coming on

Part of me believes the Jeffersons ratings went up because of Mike Evans

Yea I didn't watch it in primetime that much back then. It just kept moving around and there was no VCR. lol I think that was the only Norman Lear show I didn't watch regularly. I started following it after it first went into syndication in the early 80's.

It's still interesting that the show lost so many fans after just one season. I know the Fonz was new and upcoming but Good Times was still in it's prime........AT THE TIME

That 1975-76 season was the year that started out with The Fonz jumping over those garbage cans. I can tell you that it was the talk of my elementary school. Good Times couldn't compete with that.

I don't think CBS knew where to move it after that.

I noticed the show always aired before 9pm I guess because of Ralph carter. So what if they had a young son CBS could not air the show at 9pm?

All the start times for Good Times for six years was either 8pm or 8:30pm
