Country Music Legend Kitty Wells 1919-2012

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Kitty Wells, legendary "Queen of Country Music", died Monday at the age of 92. Born Ellen Muriel Deason Wright, Wells passed away peacefully with family by her side at her home Monday morning following complications from a stroke. Kitty Wells started her career with her late husband Johnnie Wright in 1937. In 1952 she was the first female singer to reach No. 1 on the country charts with her song, "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels." She reigned as country music's top female singer for the next 14 consecutive years and in 1976, was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at the Hendersonville Church of Christ. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to Goodpasture Christian School, C/O Kitty Well/Johnnie Wright Scholarship Fund. |

I've read at another forum that the rest of Glen Campbell's final tour has been canceled because he can no longer travel due to his Alzheimer's, so he may be well on his way too.
