He was portrayed to be a bad one, but let's face it, if he was, Lamont wouldn't have never looked forward to his meals after work. Fred sometimes was a slacker, but in Lamont's own words, he could cook when he wanted to. What comes to mind was when B.B. King came to visit, and Fred cooked that big down home Sunday like dinner. I saw a big Ham, corn bread, and many side dishes that I couldn't make out. The meal looked so good and made me hungry. The character of Fred Sanford gets it here for being an underrated cook. Hey, Lamont never tried to cook, and I don't care if he did work all day, he never made an effort. He always ran his sorry ass down to the diner!

I actually seem to remember Lamont cooking at least one time, when he was trying to show Fred how much he really cared about him. Can't remember the episode or the menu, maybe I'm wrong. But you're right. If anyone was the cook of the family, it was Fred! I especially liked the meal he made for Esther and Woody when he was trying to get them back together-- spaghetti under glass! You could tell that stuff was fake plastic but I think that was part of the joke.

Like I said, I really don't know. I'll have to look at all my dvd's and that will take me quite awhile. It would probably have been from season 4 or 5, that's about all I watch. If I find out, I'll let you know.

Check out the episode " The Light housekeeper". Lamont cooked some burnt eggs and coco that tasted like coffee.

The only time Fred messed up a meal was when he wasn't paying attention to what was cooking because of tv or something.

okay, guys, I found the episode I was thinking of when Lamont cooked. I was home sick this week and decided to try and find it. I got it on my second try. I was right, it was from season 5, and in my opinion, one of the best episodes, "The Over the Hill Gag." Lamont overhears a doctor tell Fred he has six months- to pay his bill, but Lamont mistakenly thinks it's to live. Lamont lavishes love and respect on his supposedly-dying father, including having Rollo arrange a date with Lena "The Horn" Horne for Fred, who decides to play along for a chance at his dream woman. The mistake is cleared up by Fred's nurse, but Lamont and the gang take the opportunity to teach the deceptive Fred a lesson. It's in this episode that Lamont cooks "all your favorites, roast duck, green peas, mashed potatoes and cornbread and gravy." So, Lamont DID cook, at least once! And the episode is in my top five favorites.

ok, I can't believe that episode slipped my mind with him cooking. I still can't believe Lamont cooked that, though. That's a sunday meal. He doesn't strike me as someone who can cook

Well, remember, he thought Fred was dying so I guess he made a special effort. Plus, like Grady kind of alluded to, he may have thought he wouldn't have to cook for Fred much longer

I think Fred could cook when he wanted to, but prolly most of the time just threw stuff together fast.

It was implied that Lamont was an even WORSE cook though.

Once Lamont made breakfast and Fred acted like it was inedible. He remarks, "Son I gotta say one thing, you make a good cup of coffee!" To which Lamont replies, "That's COCO!!"

Lamont was part of the younger generation that didn't care about cooking. Remember the ep when Lamont was going to have his girlfriend Sheila cook for him while Donna cooked for Fred?

DONNA could cook!! Sheila just had her nails done.
